Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – In a significant step towards rebuilding critical infrastructure in the Somali capital, the Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungab), officially laid the foundation stone for a new road linking Abdiqasim and Banadir junctions in the Hodan District.
The new road project is part of a broader initiative by the Banadir Regional Administration to modernize Mogadishu’s infrastructure and enhance public services. During the ceremony, Mayor Muungab reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reinvesting tax revenues into vital development projects that directly benefit the local population.
“We are returning public funds to the people through service delivery and infrastructure development,” said the Mayor. “This road is just one of several upcoming projects aimed at improving urban mobility, economic activity, and access to essential services.”
In his speech, Mayor Muungab also addressed the issue of road closures in Mogadishu, many of which were originally implemented due to security concerns. He announced plans to reopen all roads that are no longer under threat, in order to ease traffic congestion and support the movement of people and goods across the city. He urged residents to cooperate with security forces to ensure that the reopening process is conducted safely and efficiently.
“We are working closely with the security sector to assess and reopen roads that are no longer affected by security risks. We call on the public to support our security forces in maintaining peace and stability,” he added.
The stone-laying ceremony was attended by several senior officials and community leaders, including Deputy Commissioner for Security and Politics Mohamed Yabooh, Deputy Commissioner for General Affairs Hassan Mohamed Jimale, the Governor of Hodan District, local government directors, traditional elders, business leaders, and representatives from the Somali security forces. Their presence underscored the importance of the project and the shared commitment to rebuilding Mogadishu.

This initiative is part of a larger vision to transform Mogadishu into a more livable and functional city following years of conflict and instability. The Mayor’s administration continues to prioritize development, security, and community engagement as pillars of the city’s recovery.
