Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The President of Jubbaland State, Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe), held a high-level meeting today in Kismayo with the African Union Special Envoy for Somalia, Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, along with his accompanying delegation.

The discussions focused on the overall situation in Somalia, with particular emphasis on political developments, security challenges, and the role of the African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) in the ongoing fight against the Al-Shabaab insurgency.

President Ahmed Madobe provided the AU delegation with a detailed briefing on the current state of operations against Al-Shabaab, especially in areas recently liberated from militant control. He emphasized the importance of sustained support from AUSSOM and the international community in maintaining and securing these gains.

Ambassador Diene, the newly appointed Special Envoy, expressed his commitment to strengthening cooperation between AUSSOM, the Federal Government of Somalia, and the regional administrations. He affirmed that the AU mission would continue to play an active role in supporting counter-terrorism efforts across Jubbaland, working in coordination with Somali authorities.

Also present at the meeting were senior military officials from the Kenyan government, reflecting Kenya’s ongoing involvement in regional peace and security efforts as part of its participation in the AU mission.

This meeting comes amid a broader series of engagements by Ambassador Diene with federal and regional leaders across Somalia, as he seeks to build strong relationships and align AUSSOM’s operations with the evolving needs on the ground.

The talks in Kismayo underscore the critical importance of collaboration between Somali leadership and international partners in the fight against terrorism and in advancing long-term stability in the region.
