Dozens of Mawisley Militants Surrender to Al-Shabaab in Middle Shabelle

|

JOWHAR (KAAB TV) – The number of Mawisley group members surrendering to Al-Shabaab in parts of the Middle Shabelle region has risen sharply, according to reliable local sources.

Reports confirm that dozens of Mawisley fighters have fallen into the hands of Al-Shabaab in recent days. These militias had been active in the Hawadaley area, a region previously secured by Ausam forces, who recently withdrew after years of deployment.

The Mawisley fighters were initially supported by Burundian troops stationed in Hawadaley. However, following the departure of these forces, the group reportedly faced a severe logistical shortfall, which left them vulnerable and more inclined to surrender.

A spokesperson for the Mawisley has confirmed that over 20 members have already surrendered. Local elders are now involved in mediating between the two sides, aiming to facilitate a broader agreement.

Upon surrender, Mawisley fighters are disarmed and handed over to Al-Shabaab. These individuals had been active in Hawadaley and the surrounding areas for a considerable period, often engaged in clashes with rival groups.

The recent flooding of the Shabelle River prompted the withdrawal of government and allied troops from Hawadaley, creating a power vacuum that enabled Al-Shabaab to fully reclaim the area.
