Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – The United States has announced that it carried out a new airstrike in the al-miskaad Mountains in the Bari region of Puntland, according to a press release issued by AFRICOM.
AFRICOM stated that the strike targeted ISIS fighters operating in Puntland, specifically in an area approximately 46 miles southeast of the coastal city of Bosaso.
The command did not provide further details about the operation, having stopped since last year the practice of publicly disclosing casualty figures or assessments of civilian harm.
This strike marks the 62nd U.S. airstrike in Somalia this year, indicating that the Trump administration is on track to surpass last year’s record of 124 strikes.
The sharp increase in U.S. airstrikes follows President Trump’s decision to ease military operational rules, removing previous restrictions on drone strikes and operations conducted outside officially designated combat zones.
According to the New America organization, the United States carried out more airstrikes in Somalia in 2025 than during the combined administrations of Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and George W. Bush.
