The Federal Government of Somalia has initiated a military mobilization in the Bakool region, with troops from the Somali National Army prepared in the town of Xudur.

These troops are reportedly being planned for operations against Al-Shabaab and forces aligned with the former President of South West State, Abdicasis Hassan Mohamed ‘Lafta-gareen’.

The military mobilization is being led by officers from the National Army, with the primary movements being conducted by the 6th Brigade of the 60th Division, headquartered in Xudur, the capital of the Bakool region.

Reports from the area indicate that the prepared troops are part of a plan to bolster regional security and counter Al-Shabaab as well as other armed factions operating across local areas.

This military movement coincides with escalating political disputes between the federal government and Abdicasis Lafta-gareen, which have impacted the security situation in parts of South West State.

Tensions heightened after forces loyal to Lafta-gareen made tactical movements across parts of the Bay region, where shifts in control over key areas were reported.

Meanwhile, the Bakool region continues to face security challenges related to the presence of Al-Shabaab and armed group movements.

Regional authorities previously stated that operations are required to secure the area and reclaim locations controlled by the militant group.

Although the troop preparation in Xudur indicates security readiness, official timelines for the planned operations, initial target areas, and troop strength have not yet been announced.
