Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – Government forces recently arrested journalist Cabdi Xaafid near the Waaberi District police station in Mogadishu. He is a reporter with Somali Cable TV and is known as one of the active journalists working in the city.

Sources with knowledge of the incident say the journalist was detained while he was in the vicinity of the Waaberi station, although the official reason for his arrest has not yet been clearly disclosed.

Incidents of this kind often spark debate about press freedom and freedom of expression, which are fundamental rights guaranteed by the Somali Constitution. The Constitution affirms that the media should operate freely and that citizens have the right to access and share information.

This is not the first time journalist Cabdi Xaafid has been detained; similar incidents related to his media work have occurred in the past.

Organizations that advocate for journalists’ rights frequently call on government authorities to respect press freedom, so that reporters can carry out their work independently and without fear.
