Galgaduud (KAAB TV) – In a significant step toward enhancing regional peace and security, senior officers from the Somali National Army (XDS) convened a high-level meeting today in Ceeldheer district with traditional elders, local leaders, and members of the community. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration in the face of ongoing security challenges and promoting long-term stability in the region.
The gathering follows recent armed clashes in the Hul-Aduur area, which falls under the jurisdiction of Eeldheer district. Military officials confirmed that a reconciliation agreement has been successfully brokered between the previously warring parties, with traditional elders playing a pivotal role in mediating and facilitating dialogue.
“We are committed to achieving lasting peace and protecting the people of this region,” said a senior army officer during the session. “Today’s dialogue underscores the vital cooperation between the Somali armed forces and the communities we serve. Our joint efforts are key to defeating extremist threats and rebuilding trust.”
The traditional elders, for their part, pledged full support to both national and regional security efforts. They emphasized their dedication to maintaining peace in their communities, preventing the resurgence of conflict, and upholding law and order in coordination with the authorities.
A joint statement released by the XDS military leadership and local security officials called on community elders to actively assist in counter-terrorism operations targeting Al-Shabaab, also known as the Khawarij. The extremist group remains active in eastern parts of the Galgaduud region, where Somali forces have recently intensified military campaigns.
This meeting marks a broader initiative by Somali authorities aimed at stabilizing the Galgaduud region—a region that continues to face threats from insurgent groups. Officials have announced plans for similar community engagement meetings in nearby towns and villages in the coming days, as the government seeks to strengthen the social fabric and mobilize local support against militancy.
