Garowe (Kaab TV) — Puntland Government announced that it will take strict legal measures against prisoners belonging to the Islamic State (ISIS), who were captured during battles fought last year and this year in the Al-miskaad Mountains. Senior officials have called for severe punishments, including execution by firing squad.
Said Abdullahi Deni recently instructed the newly appointed Military Court judiciary to take firm action against individuals linked to ISIS militants defeated in the Al-Miskaad area.
According to officials within the administration, President Deni ordered that anyone found to be a member of ISIS should face the death penalty through the Puntland military court system.
These remarks come as security operations continue against remaining ISIS elements still hiding in the Al-miskaad region, where Puntland security forces have conducted extensive offensives against extremist groups over recent months.
Ilyas Osman Lugatoor also reaffirmed the administration’s hardline position while opening a training program for judicial officials. He stated that Puntland has long been fighting groups that threaten the region’s stability and called on the courts to impose tough penalties on those involved in terrorist activities.
“Puntland is prepared to prosecute individuals involved in terrorism and killings, and we expect you to take action against anyone who commits crimes,” Lugatoor said.
The Puntland administration has intensified operations against ISIS in the Bari Region following heavy clashes with the group, which had been based in the Al-Miskaad Mountains for nearly 15 years, using the area as a major stronghold.
