Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – The Somali Police Force, particularly officers operating at the Yaaqshiid District Police Station in Mogadishu, have arrested a man accused of shooting civilians today inside Yaaqshiid District of the Banadir region.
The suspect, who is accused of deliberately opening fire on civilians, has been identified as Sakariye Cabdi Ibraahin. It has been reported that he is a neighborhood (block) chairman serving in Yaaqshiid District in Mogadishu.
A video recording circulated showing Sakariye Cabdi Ibraahin shooting at unarmed civilians, including both men and women. However, the official reason behind his actions has not yet been publicly disclosed. Among the victims was a Somali mother.
In an official statement released by the Command of the Banadir Regional Police, it was confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody and will be brought before a competent court to face justice.
“The suspect is a neighborhood chairman from the Towfiiq section of Yaaqshiid District. He is in the custody of the Police Force and will be referred to the appropriate court,” the statement from the Banadir Regional Police Command said.
The arrest of the neighborhood chairman accused of deliberately shooting civilians has been widely welcomed by residents of Yaaqshiid District. In recent times, there has been an increase in swift actions taken by the police against individuals and security personnel who commit abuses against Somali citizens.
