Midnight Airstrike Targets Al-Shabaab Positions Near Basra

|

Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – A heavy bombardment was reported just after midnight last night in the Basra area, a strategic location situated between the towns of Balcad and Afgoye, straddling the border of the Middle and Lower Shabelle regions.

Eyewitnesses in Basra, an area frequently associated with high-ranking Al-Shabaab members, confirmed hearing loud explosions consistent with an airstrike. Preliminary reports indicate that the attack targeted Al-Shabaab positions on the outskirts of the town.

As of now, no official statement has been released by the Somali government or the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), which has conducted numerous airstrikes in Somalia in recent months. The extent of the damage and casualties remains unclear.

This latest attack follows a noticeable increase in U.S.-led airstrikes across Somalia, particularly in areas known to host militants from both Al-Shabaab and Daesh. The escalation is seen as part of ongoing efforts to weaken the operational capabilities of these extremist groups.
