Burkina Faso to Help Somalia in the Fight Against Al-Shabaab

NAIROBI (Kaab TV) – Burkina Faso government officially announced its support for Somalia in the fight against Al-Shabaab, particularly through providing military expertise and counterterrorism training to Somali forces.

The President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, held talks with a high-level Somali delegation led by Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag).

General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail delivered an official message to President Traoré from the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The message focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and enhancing cooperation in key strategic sectors.

Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, accompanied by his counterpart from Burkina Faso, jointly announced a new partnership marking the first formal cooperation agreement between the two nations.

The minister emphasized that Somalia and Burkina Faso face similar security challenges, as both countries are engaged in a difficult battle against terrorist groups threatening regional stability.

Burkina Faso, located in West Africa, has experienced several military coups led by young army officers in recent years.

The country is currently governed by a military administration headed by Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
