BAIDOA (Kaab TV) – South West State’s Darwish forces, backed by Federal Government troops, launched an offensive against positions held by forces loyal to former South West State President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed (Laftagareen) on the outskirts of Baidoa.
The fighting resulted in casualties, including deaths and injuries, although the exact toll remains unclear. Local residents had reportedly fled the area before the clashes intensified, making it difficult to independently verify the extent of the losses.
Officials from the South West State Darwish forces claimed that their troops captured one of the military positions used by Laftagareen-aligned fighters and took a number of prisoners during the operation. However, these claims have not yet been independently confirmed.
Forces loyal to former President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen have reportedly launched several attacks in recent weeks against Baidoa and military installations surrounding the city. Their stated objective has been to regain control of the Bay Region capital, which remains at the center of an ongoing political and security dispute within South West State.
The latest confrontation highlights the continued instability in the region following political tensions over leadership and governance in South West State.
