Mogadishu (Kaab TV) — A soldier in the Somali National Army was arrested yesterday for abusing a Somali woman in the Hamarweyne district several months ago, an incident that was captured in a video filmed by a bystander.

The arrest followed the recent circulation of the video on social media, showing the soldier assaulting the woman—a clip that sparked widespread public outrage across Somali platforms.

The suspect, identified as Abdifatah Mohamed Ibrahim, was seen hitting the vulnerable woman multiple times as she peacefully conducted her business on the roadside.

According to a statement from the Banadir Regional Police Command, the soldier will be referred to the appropriate court to face legal action for his misconduct.

“The suspect is in police custody and will be referred to the competent court to face the law,” the statement said.

The Banadir Regional Police Command also instructed all security agencies to safeguard the rights, lives, and property of Somali citizens.
