Jubbaland Warns Federal Government Against Interference in Gedo

|

KISMAAYO (Kaab TV) – The Council of Ministers of the Jubbaland administration held a meeting in Kismayo, chaired by the President of Jubbaland, Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe), during which they issued a strong warning to the Federal Government of Somalia.

A press statement released after the meeting warned the Federal Government to stop interfering in the Gedo region.

The statement from the Jubbaland Cabinet further noted that the Federal Government’s interference in Gedo could lead to new conflicts and clashes that may cause various forms of damage and casualties.

“The Council of Ministers held extensive discussions about the illegal interference by the Federal Government in the Jubbaland territories, particularly in the Gedo region, warning that such actions could trigger new conflicts and clashes with serious consequences,” the statement read.

This warning from Jubbaland comes just days after failed reconciliation talks held in Kismayo between the President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe).

A few days after those talks, Abdirashid Janan, the head of the National Intelligence and Stabilization Agency (NISA) in Gedo region, stated that the Federal Government was planning to form a new administration in Gedo, separate from the one led by Ahmed Madobe, effectively creating a parallel Jubbaland.

So far, it remains unclear how this new plan will be implemented or what impact it will have on the Gedo region.

The Hassan Sheikh administration has failed to reach an agreement with the Jubbaland regional government after the talks held in Kismayo ended without progress earlier this week. Following this, the Federal Government is reportedly trying to establish a new regional administration in Gedo, one that would be parallel to the current Jubbaland state.
