Somali Forces Repel Al-Shabaab Attack on Key Military Base in Wargaadhi

|

Wargaadhi (KAAB TV) – Early this morning, the militant group Al-Shabaab launched a major assault on a Somali government military base in Wargaadhi, located in the Middle Shabelle region. The attack began with car bomb explosions targeting both the military installation and nearby civilian areas.

Following the initial explosions, fierce fighting broke out between government forces and the militants. Al-Shabaab temporarily seized control of Wargaadhi, but Somali government troops, demonstrating significant resilience, counterattacked and successfully retook the area. Government forces are now back in control of Wargaadhi.

Casualty figures from the attack have not yet been fully confirmed, but there have been reports of both fatalities and injuries among civilians and soldiers.

Wargaadhi holds strategic importance as it serves as a key command center for Somali government operations in Middle Shabelle. Elite units such as the Danab and Gorgor commando forces were stationed there, and it has been a launch point for aerial operations against Al-Shabaab.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has previously visited the Wargaadhi base multiple times, underlining its strategic significance. Alongside Aden Yabal, which was recently recaptured by the government, Wargaadhi is considered a critical hub in the fight against Al-Shabaab.
