Washington (KAAB TV) – Former President Donald Trump stated that the United States will not allow terrorists to hide among the Somali population, vowing continued support for Somalia and action against those who threaten its stability.
“We support the Somali people and will not allow the Houthis to interfere—though they are certainly trying,” Trump wrote on social media. “We are committed to fighting terrorism and helping Somalia achieve peace and prosperity.”
Trump’s reference to the Houthis, the Yemeni rebel group, comes amid their ongoing attacks on ships en route to Israel in a show of support for Gaza. Somalia, located in the Horn of Africa, lies just across the Gulf of Aden from Yemen.
“When terrorists try to hide, it won’t help them—we have the greatest fighters in the world. They will be found and brought to swift justice,” he continued.
Trump also praised General Daniel Caine, the new Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, crediting him with the rapid defeat of ISIS during his first term.
“I’ve empowered our military once again, just like I did during the war against ISIS, which was completely destroyed in just three weeks under General Daniel Caine’s leadership,” Trump claimed.
In a 2018 speech, Trump said Caine had assured him that ISIS could be defeated within a week. He has previously described the general as “instrumental in the total destruction” of the group.
