Hargeisa (KAAB TV) – The government of Somaliland has executed Shibil Salah Isaaq and Mohamud Ali Nur for the murders of police officers in separate incidents. Isaaq was convicted of killing Bux Mawlid Ismail, a police officer, while Nur was found guilty of killing Major Ali Abdi Nur, the Commander of the Police Station in the Mohamed Mooge District of Hargeisa.
The executions took place early this morning in the Madheera Central Prison area in the Sahel region, after a Military Court determined both men were guilty of their respective crimes.
A statement from the Police Command confirmed the executions: “This morning, the General Security of the National Forces JSL executed Mohamud Ali Nur, who was responsible for the death of the late Ex-Major Abdi Ali Noor, and Shibil Salah Isaaq Muhammad, who killed Ex-Soldier Police Bux Mawlid Ismail.”
This swift execution follows the signing of a decree by Somaliland’s President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro, who approved the sentences yesterday. The decision was made after the families of the victims requested that the sentences be carried out without delay.
According to the Somaliland Military Court’s ruling, soldiers who kill other soldiers face immediate execution. While Nur, the man who killed Major Ali Abdi Nur, was a soldier, Isaaq, who killed Bux Mawlid Ismail in Gabiley, was a civilian.
