Women Bear the Brunt of Evictions and Exclusion in Somalia – Activist

MOGADISHU (Baraarug) – Shamso Dahir, a women’s rights activist in Mogadishu, along with a colleague, was arrested and detained for five days after speaking at a protest in the Dayniile district, where forced evictions have severely impacted local residents.

In an interview with Baraarug, Shamso underscored the challenges women face, particularly in situations of displacement and forced evictions. She noted that women are often the most affected, yet remain largely excluded from decision-making processes.

Despite her detention, Shamso continues to advocate for increased participation of women in governance and leadership, stressing that inclusive representation is essential to addressing the daily struggles faced by women across Somalia.
