Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – General Michael Langley, commander of US forces in Africa (AFRICOM), informed a Senate committee that the United States will expand its operations targeting Daesh in Somalia.
“The President and the Secretary of Defense have granted me broad authority to act swiftly against them,” Gen. Langley stated.
He confirmed that US forces recently conducted an airstrike in Somalia, killing several high-ranking Daesh members.
Additionally, Gen. Langley highlighted that operations against Al-Shabaab have intensified, significantly increasing their casualties.
“We are hitting them hard. I now have the ability to strike both Al-Shabaab and ISIS with full force,” he said.
Former President Donald Trump had previously ordered operations targeting ISIS militants in the mountains of Aalimiskaad in Puntland, and Al-Shabaab operatives in southern and central Somalia. Trump emphasized that these actions are part of the broader effort to combat international terrorism, assuring that there will be no safe haven for these terrorist groups.
