MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – A statement issued by the U.S. Embassy in Somalia addressed the ongoing talks between the Federal Government and opposition members. The Embassy welcomed the dialogue process and encouraged both sides to make mutual compromises.
The statement noted that the discussions are challenging, and therefore the issue at hand—the country’s political process—requires strengthened political maturity to achieve meaningful and constructive outcomes from the negotiations.
The U.S. Embassy in Somalia emphasized that the meeting is being closely watched by the international community, and urged the Somali parties engaged in the talks to produce practical and effective results.
“Dialogue and compromise are difficult but essential. We encourage Somalia’s leaders to continue striving toward these goals. A unified Somali-led political process counters terrorism, strengthens state-building, and advances priorities important to both Somalia and the international community,” the statement from the U.S. Embassy in Somalia read.
The Federal Government and the opposition reached a partial understanding on some of the issues presented during yesterday’s session. However, there are no direct meetings taking place today. Instead, separate consultations are ongoing in an effort to prevent the collapse of the talks.
