MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – A statement issued by the United Nations said that Secretary-General António Guterres is closely monitoring the situation in Somalia and has commended the Federal Government and the opposition for continuing their dialogue.
The United Nations encouraged both the Federal Government and the opposition to continue discussions in order to achieve positive outcomes regarding the country’s situation, particularly on the contentious issues currently under negotiation between the two sides.
“The Chairperson and the Secretary-General call on Somali leaders to resume dialogue and work in a spirit of compromise,” said Antonio Guterres.
Efforts are ongoing by members of the international community to provide another opportunity for the Federal Government and the opposition, whose talks ended without agreement at the close of last week after several days of discussions.
A similar statement had earlier been issued by the European Union, which urged Somalia’s government leaders and the united opposition forum to continue their negotiations in good faith and work toward a successful resolution.
