LONDON (KAAB TV) – The UK government is strengthening its defense cooperation with Kenya, Somalia, and Nigeria as part of a new strategic focus on African security.
This development is outlined in the latest Strategic Defence Review (SDR), released by the government of Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The report identifies these three nations as key strategic partners in addressing international threats and securing vital trade routes and maritime corridors.
Somalia, in particular, is described as a crucial pillar of the UK’s security interests, especially in the fight against the growing threat of the Al-Shabaab insurgency. In response, the UK has significantly increased its support, including a $3.9 million boost to the United Nations Support Office’s fund for Somali security forces.
According to the report, this funding will contribute to military equipment, personnel welfare, and medical evacuation capabilities—efforts aimed at enhancing Somalia’s stability and security.
The review emphasizes that the UK’s growing defense partnerships across Africa will form a central component of its long-term security and foreign policy agenda.
