Uganda Arrests Suspect Linked to 38 Murders and Cannibalism

Ugandan security forces have arrested Moses Mujurizi, a man suspected of involvement in the killings of 38 people between 2010 and 2025, according to Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

In a statement published online, Kainerugaba said Mujurizi was linked to alleged killings in the districts of Masaka, Ibanda and Kazo.

The allegations reportedly include murdering victims and consuming their remains, although authorities have not publicly provided detailed evidence supporting the claims.

Ugandan newspaper Daily Monitor has linked the suspect to a series of killings in the Greater Masaka region, particularly during 2012 and 2013.

Security agencies investigated numerous cases during that period as authorities sought to establish responsibility for the attacks.

Earlier reports also indicated that the suspect had been taken into custody on previous occasions but later left the hands of security agencies under circumstances that raised questions.

Police have reportedly been reviewing files relating to earlier killings to determine whether Mujurizi, or other individuals, may have been involved.

Separately, the Uganda Radio Network reported that a man identified as Fred Mujulizi, also known as Kulaish Kamugisha, and another suspect had appeared in court facing charges related to murder and human trafficking.

It remains unclear from the available information whether those proceedings are directly connected to the allegations against Mujurizi.

The latest arrest comes amid renewed attention to a series of historical murder investigations in Uganda.

Authorities have yet to publicly disclose the full evidence against Mujurizi or clarify whether formal charges have been filed in connection with all 38 alleged killings. The accusations remain unproven unless established in court.
