Two Somali Deputy Ministers Resign Over Federal Government Interference and Rising Political Tensions in Southwest

MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – Two members of Somalia’s Federal Parliament have officially announced their resignation from their posts as Deputy Ministers, citing strong concerns over the federal government’s policies and its continued interference in regional states.

MP Mohamed Aden Mohamed, who served as Deputy Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, said his decision was driven by his views on the country’s leadership.

He criticized the policies of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, stating they are fueling conflict, deepening divisions, and increasing pressure on the Somali people—particularly through persistent interference in federal member states.

The MP emphasized that his conscience would not allow him to remain part of a political system that, in his view, contributes to instability and renewed conflict.

Similarly, MP Isaak Mahamud Mursal, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, also announced his resignation, citing the need to uphold national agreements, ongoing federal interference, and violations of the Provisional Constitution.

He stated that his decision reflects his responsibility toward the Somali people, especially those in Southwest State, and called on the government to end what he described as the misuse of power.

Both officials extended their wishes for peace and a blessed Eid to the Somali people, urging a renewed focus on dialogue, justice, and the preservation of national unity.

The resignations come at a time of rising political tensions, particularly surrounding the administration of Southwest State and the strained relationship between the federal government and regional states.
