Mogadishu (KAAB TV ) – The Ministry of Petroleum and Minerals of the Federal Government of Somalia announced that Turkey’s oil exploration activities in Somalia will be completed by the end of this year.
During a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, the Ministry provided a progress report on the ongoing oil exploration efforts and the challenges faced.
The ministry reassured the Cabinet that the 3D Seismic Survey, aimed at identifying oil reserves, will be completed by year-end. This milestone will pave the way for the next phase of oil well drilling.
Turkey’s Oruc Reis ship, which arrived in Mogadishu port in October last year, was later escorted to the coast of Galmudug, where it began exploring for oil and natural gas off the Somali coast.
Built in 2017, the Oruc Reis is one of Turkey’s most advanced ships and is expected to play a key role in Somalia’s efforts to tap into its oil resources. Should oil production be successful, it could significantly contribute to the country’s economic growth.
