MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – The governments of Somalia and Turkey are expanding their security cooperation following the implementation of a previously signed military agreement.
The agreement serves as the foundation for the construction of a modern naval training facility for the Somali Navy, which is being established on the outskirts of Cadale district in the Middle Shabelle region.
The new base is located within a larger compound that Turkey is developing in the same area. Independent reports indicate that the facility will include various technical and training services aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of the Somali Navy.
Informed sources suggest that the base may, in the future, host testing and monitoring activities related to advanced technologies.
The first units of the Somali Navy have already been deployed to the site. In addition, the command structure for the Cadale Division has been formally established, with commanders and officers appointed to oversee operations at the base.
This move has been described as a significant step toward reinforcing the chain of command and improving the overall organization of naval operations.
Personnel stationed at the base are currently using small patrol boats recently supplied by the Turkish government to help secure the nearby coastline. Overall security at the facility is being jointly maintained by units from the Gorgor forces and Turkish troops, who are responsible for guarding both the interior and exterior of the compound.
Although construction of the base is not yet fully complete, heavy equipment and essential military supplies have already been delivered. Training programs for naval personnel have also commenced, focusing on enhancing coastal protection skills and countering maritime security threats.
Meanwhile, a Turkish government aircraft that arrived in Mogadishu yesterday transported members of the Haramad unit to Turkey for advanced training. The program is reportedly designed to strengthen the capabilities of the police special forces, particularly in areas related to security and the prevention of modern threats.
This military cooperation between Somalia and Turkey comes at a time when the Somali government is intensifying efforts to rebuild and professionalize its various security forces, with the aim of strengthening national security and safeguarding the country’s extensive coastline. Independent media reports suggest that these developments reflect the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations.
