Washington (KAAB TV) – President Trump said on Wednesday that he spoke separately on the phone yesterday with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who he said expressed their desire for a peaceful solution to the conflict between the two countries.
Trump said that he ordered the senior officials of the United States to start talks between Russia and Ukraine in order to end the war in Ukraine.
These talks came hours after the US Secretary of Defense said in Germany that the Kyiv government should give up its long-cherished ambitions of joining the NATO military alliance and recapturing all the land it captured from Russia.
This marked a major shift in Washington’s policy on the war in Ukraine.
Trump told the media that he will meet President Putin in Saudi Arabia soon.
