SANTO DOMINGO (KAAB TV) – The death toll continues to rise following the collapse of a nightclub roof in the capital city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Government officials confirmed that at least 184 people have died in the tragic incident, while hopes of finding additional survivors beneath the rubble are fading.
Local media, citing Juan Manuel Méndez, Director of Emergency Operations, reported on Thursday that rescue crews have not found any survivors since Tuesday afternoon, when the operation began. Méndez stated, “We will remain here until we recover everyone, dead or alive.”
The nightclub was reportedly packed with musicians, professional athletes, and government officials at the time of the collapse. Witnesses say the roof caved in suddenly while people were celebrating.
The exact cause of the collapse remains unknown. In a press release, nightclub management expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and stated they are cooperating fully with authorities. An investigation into the cause of the structural failure is already underway.
