The United States’ AFRICOM Command has Given Details of an Airstrike That Killed a Member of Al-Shabaab.

WASHINGTON (KAAB TV) – In an operation with the cooperation of the government of Somalia, the United States Africa Command carried out an airstrike on the 24th of December, in a place about 10 km to the southwest of Kuunyo Barrow area, and Mohamed Mire was killed in the attack. was a senior Al-Shabaab officer named Abu Abdirahman and other militants, according to AFRICOM.

Mire has been at the center of Al-Shabaab administration for 15 years.

The US Africa Command said there were no civilian casualties in the initial assessment of the bombing.

“Countering the growing threat of terrorism is a cornerstone of the National Security Strategy,” said Gen. Michael Langley, head of AFRICOM. He highlighted the Global Terrorism Index 2024, which underlines al-Shabaab’s status as a significant threat, and reiterated the United States’ commitment to working with regional allies to promote security, stability , and prosperity.

Mire was designated a Specially Designated International Terrorist by the US State Department in October 2022, pursuant to Executive Order 13224.

While the details of the operation are being withheld for security reasons, AFRICOM officials said they will closely monitor the results of the strike and will share any updates.
