Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The Special Envoy of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia and the head of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Ambassador Mohamed El-Amine Souef, expressed his support for the Declaration. The joint issued in January. 11, 2025, Addis Ababa.
The announcement followed high-level talks between Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, with both officials once again confirming their commitment to Ankara’s call. The agreement was focused on strengthening diplomatic relations, promoting security cooperation, and developing economic integration between the two neighboring countries.
Ambassador Souef described the agreement as an important step to foster regional stability and shared prosperity. He praised the leadership of the two countries for their commitment to promoting peace and security in the Horn of Africa.
“This joint statement represents an important step to strengthen the principles of the Ankara Declaration. A renewed focus on diplomacy, security cooperation, and economic cooperation will greatly contribute to regional stability and Africa’s desire for peace and prosperity,”The representative of the African Union reiterated AUSSOM’s commitment to support Somalia’s stabilization efforts and regional cooperation. He emphasized that these efforts are in line with the wishes of the Somali people and the broader vision of the African Union towards a united and peaceful continent.
The joint statement also underlined the importance of mutual respect and cooperation between Somalia and Ethiopia, which shows a change in their bilateral relations after the previous crisis. The renewed partnership is expected to address shared challenges, including threats to border security and economic development.
