Tensions Rise Between Banadir Governor and President’s Party Amid Political Shake-Up in Mogadishu

|

MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – In recent hours, social media platforms have been abuzz with reports of escalating political tensions between the Governor of Banadir Region, Hassan Mohamed Hussein, widely known as “Muungaab”, and members of the ruling political party led by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

According to multiple credible sources, the conflict appears to have been triggered by a controversial reshuffling of key administrative positions within the Banadir Regional Administration. Governor Muungaab is said to have dismissed several officials affiliated with President Hassan Sheikh’s party and replaced them with individuals aligned with the National Vision Party, a rival political group.

This move has reportedly caused significant friction within government ranks and sparked open criticism from members of the President’s inner circle. In response, the leadership of the President’s party has filed a formal complaint against Governor Muungaab, accusing him of using his position to advance the interests of the National Vision Party. The complaint further alleges that Muungaab is a longtime affiliate of the National Mission Party, another political organization often at odds with the ruling faction.

Governor Muungaab, who has held office for just three months, has a history of being a vocal critic of the current administration prior to his appointment. His selection was initially viewed by some as a move toward political reconciliation, but the recent developments suggest that internal divisions may be deepening instead.

Sources close to Villa Somalia (the Presidential Palace) suggest that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is now seriously considering the dismissal of Governor Muungaab due to growing political instability and intra-party conflict.

Further reports also indicate that Yusuf Hussein Jimale “Madaale”, the current Mayor of Mogadishu and former Governor of Banadir, may be considered for a return to the regional governorship if Muungaab is removed.

The situation remains fluid, with both supporters and critics of the Governor weighing in across social media platforms and political forums. Observers warn that the political infighting could have broader implications for the governance of Mogadishu and the wider Banadir region, particularly at a time when the country is facing numerous security and economic challenges.
