MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – Tensions have once again escalated at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, involving airport employees and the company Favori, which manages the facility.
A number of employees, who have been voicing serious complaints against the company’s senior management, staged a protest today at the main entrance of the airport. They also carried out a work stoppage in an effort to draw attention to their grievances.
Speaking to the media, the workers accused the airport management company of illegally deducting salaries and committing other abuses.
“A person who has worked for 30 days still has not received their salary as of today, the 18th of the month. Today we have lost everything, as Somali workers are being dismissed from their positions and replaced with Kenyans, Ugandans, and Turks, while Somali citizens are left unemployed,” said Nasro, one of the employees at Aden Adde Airport.
She also sent a message to the Somali government, particularly the President, calling on him to intervene in their situation.
“We are urgently appealing, loudly and clearly, for the rights that these workers are entitled to in their own country—rights that have been violated—to be restored,” Nasro added.
Complaints from Somali employees at Aden Adde International Airport have been recurring for some time. The workers repeatedly raise concerns about Favori, yet no visible action has been taken to address their grievances.
Recently, during a visit to the airport, the Prime Minister summoned the leadership of Favori and discussed ways to resolve the ongoing complaints at the airport, as well as to improve services that are reportedly lacking in some areas.
