Cairo (Kaab TV) — The Arab Parliament has affirmed that it will pursue regional and international political measures to support the security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia and Yemen, while emphatically rejecting any foreign interference in the internal affairs of either country.

In an official statement released on Saturday at the opening of the Arab Parliament’s second general assembly session of its second cycle in Cairo, held at the headquarters of the Arab League’s General Secretariat, the body stressed the importance of respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity as fundamental principles of international relations.

The statement called for peaceful and political solutions to ongoing crises in the Arab world that preserve national unity and long-term stability.

It urged Arab governments and national parliaments to show full solidarity with Somalia and Yemen and to take concrete steps to help safeguard their security, political independence, and institutional legitimacy.

The Arab Parliament also reiterated its categorical rejection of any external actions that undermine the authority of legitimate state institutions in either country.

The declaration comes against the backdrop of heightened regional diplomatic activity following Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, a move that has drawn widespread regional and international condemnation as a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In recent weeks, Somalia has received strong political backing from Arab League institutions and member states as Mogadishu seeks to consolidate international support amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Horn of Africa.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its full support for Yemen’s internationally recognized government, emphasizing the importance of peaceful, Yemeni-led political solutions.

The Ministry extended condolences to the families of the victims and urged Ethiopian citizens to avoid irregular migration routes.

It called on those seeking employment abroad to do so through legal and authorized channels.

Highlighting its ongoing efforts to create safer labor migration opportunities, the government said thousands of Ethiopians have already benefited from official programs.

It also warned against the dangers posed by human trafficking and smuggling networks, emphasizing the need for public awareness and strict adherence to regulated migration processes.

IOM statement

In a statement, the Ministry expressed deep sorrow over the incident and said it is working with international and regional partners to uncover the full details.

“The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of life after a vessel carrying 200 migrants capsized off the coast of Shuqrah, in Yemen’s Abyan Governorate on 3 August,” IOM said in a statement.

At least 56 people are reported dead, 14 of them female, with many of the victims believed to be Ethiopian nationals, IOM added.

The total number of those missing stands at 132.

So far 12 survivors, all male, have been found.

IOM reported that the victims were part of a group of migrants whose vessel capsized while attempting to cross the Gulf of Aden, near Yemen’s Abyan Governorate.

According to the IOM, all the victims were Ethiopian nationals.

Dozens of bodies have been recovered along the Yemeni coast, while search operations continue for those still missing.

HARGEISA (Kaab TV) – A cargo ship attacked by Yemen’s Houthi rebels has sunk in the Red Sea, marking the second such incident in a week.

According to the European Union’s naval mission, six crew members were rescued, while at least three others have been confirmed dead.

The Liberian-flagged and Greek-operated vessel, Eternity C, was carrying 25 crew when it was struck on Monday by rocket-propelled grenades launched from small boats.

The attack disabled the ship, causing significant damage and rendering it inoperable, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported.

The assault reportedly continued into Tuesday, with search and rescue operations launched overnight.

The Houthis claimed responsibility, stating that Eternity C was targeted because it was bound for Israel.

They also claimed to have taken several crew members to a “safe location,” though details remain unclear.

The U.S. Embassy in Yemen condemned the attack and accused the Houthis of kidnapping surviving crew members, urging their immediate release.

Philippine authorities confirmed that 21 of the crew were Filipino nationals. One Russian crew member was severely injured, reportedly losing a leg.

Just days earlier, the Houthis attacked another Liberian-flagged, Greek-operated ship, the Magic Seas.

The vessel was hit by missiles and drones and later sank after armed men boarded and set off explosions.

All 22 crew members were rescued by a nearby merchant ship.

Since November 2023, Houthi forces have launched over 70 attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, using drones, missiles, and small boats.

These actions have resulted in four ships being sunk, one seized, and at least seven crew deaths.

The Houthis say their operations are in solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, claiming they only target vessels linked to Israel, the U.S., or the UK.

However, many of these claims have been false, with numerous neutral or unrelated vessels targeted.

Operation Aspides, the EU naval force in the Red Sea, confirmed on Wednesday that six survivors—five Filipinos and one Indian—had been recovered.

Nineteen crew members from Eternity C remain unaccounted for.

A video released by maritime security firm Diaplous shows the dramatic rescue of at least five seafarers, who reportedly spent more than 24 hours in the water.

The company said the search would continue “until the last light.”

Reuters reported a death toll of four, citing maritime security sources.

The U.S. State Department condemned the Houthi attacks as a serious threat to freedom of navigation and regional maritime security.

It reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to protecting commercial shipping from what it called “Houthi terrorist attacks.”

Despite a May ceasefire agreement between the Houthis and the U.S., the group has continued targeting vessels allegedly linked to Israel.

The Houthis claim the deal did not prohibit attacks related to the conflict in Gaza.

WASHINGTON (Kaab TV) — U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday reinstated a signature policy from his first term, announcing a sweeping travel ban targeting citizens of 12 countries, including Somalia.

The ban, which takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, also imposes heightened restrictions on visitors from seven additional nations.

According to the Associated Press, the measure is structured to avoid the airport chaos that erupted in 2017 when a similar ban was introduced with almost no warning.

This time, Trump appears to be on stronger legal footing, following a 2018 Supreme Court decision that upheld his authority to implement such restrictions.

Full ban

The new list of banned countries includes Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Visitors from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela will face enhanced screening and visa restrictions.

Trump defended the move by citing concerns over “deficient” vetting systems, a lack of cooperation from some governments in accepting deported citizens, and high visa overstay rates.

His administration relied heavily on a Department of Homeland Security report tracking visa overstays by tourists, students, and business travelers arriving by air or sea.

“We don’t want them,” Trump said bluntly.

Somalia Specifically Targeted

In his official proclamation, Trump claimed that Somalia lacks a competent or cooperative central authority for issuing passports or civil documentation.

Trump asserted that Somalia’s government does not effectively control its territory, which, according to him, limits its ability to ensure national security.

“Somalia stands apart from other countries in the degree to which its government lacks command and control of its territory,” the proclamation reads.

The administration further argued that Somalia continues to harbor a persistent terrorist threat, stating that terrorist groups use Somali territory as a base for planning and launching attacks.

MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, arrived in Mogadishu on Sunday, where he met with Somali government officials, including President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

While the details of the discussions remain undisclosed, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi hosted a luncheon in honor of the Russian delegation.

Sources at Villa Somalia told our reporter that Bogdanov personally delivered an invitation from President Vladimir Putin to President Mohamud to attend the upcoming Russia-Arab League summit later this year.

Bogdanov, a veteran diplomat with decades of experience across the Middle East and Africa, is regarded as one of President Putin’s most trusted envoys and has been honored with a presidential medal for his service.

Russia’s diplomatic push in Somalia comes as Moscow seeks to forge new alliances amid its ongoing war in Ukraine, now entering its third year. Although Somalia initially condemned Russia’s invasion, Mogadishu has recently softened its stance, with Somali officials making quiet visits to Moscow.

The shift in Somalia’s diplomatic posture occurs at a time when the country faces serious internal challenges, including the rapid advance of militant groups toward Mogadishu.

Meanwhile, uncertainty looms over the future of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), as the United States — the mission’s largest financial backer — hesitates to commit further funding.

Deputy Foreign Minister Isaac Mursal stated that Somalia is eager to deepen cooperation with Russia in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and trade.

Russia’s outreach to Somalia is part of its broader effort to expand its influence in strategically important parts of Africa.

At the same time, Iran has reportedly been engaging Somali federal officials through Chinese intermediaries, according to diplomatic sources.

These contacts have remained largely secret, especially amid heightened tensions following U.S. airstrikes against the Iran-backed Houthi militia in Yemen.

Intelligence reports suggest that the Houthis have been using Mogadishu’s seaport to smuggle illicit arms to various Somali militia groups and have developed ties with the al-Shabaab militant group.

AMMAN (Kaab TV) – The Jordanian government has formally banned the Muslim Brotherhood, escalating its crackdown on the Islamist group following allegations that several of its members were planning armed attacks inside the country.

Interior Minister Mazen al-Faraya announced Wednesday the closure of all Brotherhood offices and the confiscation of its assets.

“All activities by the group will now be considered illegal,” he said.

The Muslim Brotherhood has not yet responded to the government’s accusations.

This move comes as part of a broader national security response after Jordan’s intelligence services arrested 16 individuals suspected of plotting attacks against key infrastructure and national institutions.

Authorities say the group possessed explosives, homemade rockets, drones, and automatic weapons, and had conducted training both inside Jordan and abroad—including in Lebanon.

A Jordanian court last week charged 12 of the suspects, believed to be linked to the Brotherhood, with terrorism-related crimes.

It is the first time in decades that a domestic group has faced accusations of plotting an attack of this magnitude.

Although the Muslim Brotherhood has for years been legally dissolved in Jordan—following a 2020 court ruling that found the group failed to correct its legal registration—the organization has continued to operate politically and socially, primarily through its political arm, the Islamic Action Front (IAF).

In last year’s elections, the IAF secured 31 of the 138 seats in parliament.

The latest measures significantly limit the group’s remaining influence in Jordan, as political tensions intensify in the region due to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

Analysts say the government is increasingly wary of internal dissent or mobilization that could be fueled by the conflict.

IAF Secretary-General Wael Saqqa has denied any organizational ties between the party and the banned Brotherhood network, stating that the IAF is “independent and operates lawfully.”

Still, Minister Faraya maintains that elements within the Brotherhood have been working covertly to undermine national stability.

“Their activities pose a serious threat to the country’s peace and security,” he said.

Founded in Egypt nearly a century ago, the Muslim Brotherhood has long promoted the establishment of Islamic rule based on Sharia law and has branches or affiliated movements across the Middle East.

Jordan’s latest crackdown marks one of the most aggressive moves yet against the group in the kingdom.

Yemen (KAAB TV) – The Houthi group, which controls significant parts of Yemen, announced yesterday that it successfully shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper drone, a high-tech unmanned aerial vehicle used for both surveillance and military strikes.

In an official statement, the Houthis confirmed that the drone was brought down during ongoing tensions between the group and U.S. forces operating in the region.

The MQ-9 Reaper, valued at approximately $33 million, is among 20 similar drones the Houthis claim to have downed since the conflict escalated. If confirmed, the total estimated cost of the drones lost would be around $660 million—marking a substantial financial setback for the United States.

This latest incident comes at a time of intensified U.S. airstrikes targeting Houthi-controlled areas, which have reportedly caused significant civilian casualties.
