Somali National Sentenced To 30 Years in Prison For Murder

United States (Kaab TV) – A federal court in the state of Missouri, USA, today issued a severe sentence against a Somali national convicted of a kidnapping case that resulted in death.

Mohamud Tooxoow Mohamed, 44, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Megan B. Benton to 30 years in federal prison after being found guilty of kidnapping and the murder of a woman identified as J.M.

According to court documents, the body of J.M. was discovered on July 29, 2019, after being dumped in a pit located along Missouri Highway 59.

A DNA investigation confirmed that J.M.’s blood was found on various items recovered from a vehicle used jointly by the defendant and the victim.

J.M. was last seen alive on July 16, 2019. On that day, she called emergency services (911) and reported that Mohamud was holding a knife and attempting to force himself on her sexually.

She also expressed serious concern for the safety of her three children, who were at home with the defendant at the time.

The following day, July 17, 2019, J.M. and her children were reported missing. The children were later found in a house in Des Moines, Iowa, on August 8, 2019.

After leaving the children in Iowa, Mohamud Tooxoow Mohamed fled the United States and traveled to Guatemala, where he remained until he was apprehended by U.S. law enforcement on July 27, 2021.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ami Harshad Miller. The investigation was conducted jointly by the FBI and police departments in McDonald County, Rochester, and Des Moines.

Minneapolis (Kaab TV) – U.S. police, particularly officers in Minneapolis, have arrested a man who attacked Congresswoman Ilhan Omar while she was attending a public meeting that discussed the pressure caused by ongoing operations and escalating violence in the state of Minnesota.

The suspect approached Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and sprayed substances described as having a very foul odor, the nature of which has not yet been identified. Security personnel at the venue intervened immediately and detained the man.

After the suspect was restrained, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar moved toward him but was prevented from confronting him, as he had already been handed over to the police.

Authorities are investigating what substance was sprayed, who may have sent him, his motive, and other pending questions.

Following the incident, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar posted a statement on her social media accounts confirming that she was safe and unharmed, and that the incident would not intimidate her.

“I am okay. I am safe. This small act will not frighten me, nor will it stop me from doing my job. I will not allow bullies to win,” said Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in a post shared on her X (formerly Twitter) account.

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has previously stated that she is facing pressure from political figures, including those close to former U.S. President Donald Trump, whom she says are attempting to silence her. However, she has emphasized that such challenges only serve to strengthen and motivate her.

U.S. Announces $1 Million Reward for Information on Kismayo Airport Attack in Somalia

Mogadishu (Kaab TV) — The United States has announced a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to the identification or capture of those responsible for an attack targeting U.S. military personnel and property at Kismayo International Airport in southern Somalia.

The reward was offered through the U.S. government’s Rewards for Justice program, which seeks public assistance in counterterrorism investigations. The attack, claimed by the al-Qaida-linked militant group al-Shabab, involved rockets and mortar shells fired at U.S. and African forces stationed at the airport.

U.S. officials said the assault caused no casualties and resulted in no damage to U.S. facilities.

“Do you have information about the individuals involved in the attack?” the program said in a statement posted on a U.S. government website. “Your information could lead to a reward and possible relocation.”

MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – The United States has issued its highest-level travel advisory, Level 4 “Do Not Travel,” applying to more than 20 countries, including Somalia, due to extremely serious security risks, according to the U.S. Department of State.

This level—the highest in the four-tier travel advisory system—is issued in situations involving life-threatening dangers and where the ability of U.S. embassies to assist their citizens is limited or may be impossible.

The State Department has urged U.S. citizens currently in these countries to leave as soon as it is safely possible.

The warning comes amid growing concerns over armed conflict, terrorist activities, civil unrest, widespread crime, and poor public services, all of which can endanger travelers’ safety and limit a government’s capacity to respond to emergencies.

Washington (Kaab TV) – The U.S. government has temporarily suspended all immigration applications coming from 19 countries, according to an official press statement.

This move comes a week after an attack in Washington in which two National Guard soldiers were killed.

The immigration agency USCIS had already halted all asylum procedures last Friday. The agency’s director, Joseph Edlow, said the decision was driven by the need for much more rigorous screening of foreign nationals.

Some of the countries now facing suspended immigration applications were already on the list of nations subject to travel restrictions under former President Trump.

USA (KAAB TV) – United States President Donald Trump has said he is withdrawing his support for Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, calling the lawmaker a “lunatic” and accusing her of going “far left”.

In a post on his Truth Social platform late on Friday, Trump said, “I am withdrawing my support and endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene, of the great state of Georgia.”

The US leader, labelling Greene “wacky”, said all the lawmaker did was “COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN”, despite his “record achievements” in office.

Greene, a member of the House of Representatives, has long been a reliable ally and fierce defender of Trump, even sporting a Make America Great Again (MAGA) baseball hat at President Joe Biden’s 2024 State of the Union address.

But in recent months, she has taken positions at odds with the White House and her fellow Republicans, including criticising them during the just-ended federal government shutdown, saying the Trump administration needed a plan to help people set to lose health insurance subsidies as part of planned cuts.

More notably, Greene has also become a vocal campaigner for transparency and the full release of files related to late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein – a recurrent scandal that continues to engulf President Trump.

Greene responded to Trump’s announcement on Friday with screenshots of a text message she sent the president about the Epstein case, claiming it “sent him over the edge”.

“It’s astonishing really how hard he’s fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out that he actually goes to this level,” she wrote on X.

“Most Americans wish he would fight this hard to help the forgotten men and women of America who are fed up with foreign wars and foreign causes, are going broke trying to feed their families, and are losing hope of ever achieving the American dream,” she said.

Greene also claimed Trump is going after her “hard to make an example to scare all the other Republicans before next week’s vote to release the Epstein files”.

On Wednesday, House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson said the body will hold a vote next week on whether to force the Department of Justice to disclose all files related to Epstein – who died by suicide in prison in 2019.

It came as a result of the bipartisan Epstein Files Transparency Act – a discharge petition allowing a majority of lawmakers to bypass the House leadership and force a vote on the issue – which was signed by Greene and three other House Republicans.

If backed, the measure would force the release of flight logs and travel records, individuals named or referenced in connection with the Epstein investigation, and materials related to Epstein’s former girlfriend and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.

How well did Trump know Epstein and Maxwell?

Trump has faced growing scrutiny over his alleged ties to the disgraced financier, most recently on Wednesday, when Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released new emails appearing to further link the pair.

In one email, Epstein told Maxwell that Trump had “spent hours” at his house with one abuse victim. The White House claimed the communications “prove nothing”.

Trump has repeatedly urged his supporters to move on from the scandal, labelling suggestions that there is an Epstein client list with his name on it a “hoax” pushed by his Democratic opponents.

In an interview on Friday, Greene labelled Trump’s resistance to releasing the files a “huge miscalculation”, adding that she does not believe he has anything to hide.

Trump made no mention of the Epstein issue in his post disowning Greene, claiming the schism between the pair began when he discouraged her from running for senator or governor due to low polling numbers.

“She has told many people that she is upset that I don’t return her phone calls any more, but with 219 Congressmen/women, 53 US Senators, 24 Cabinet Members, almost 200 Countries, and an otherwise normal life to lead, I can’t take a ranting Lunatic ‘s call every day,” Trump said.

Trump continued that Republicans in Georgia are “fed up with her and her antics” and should they find an alternative to run at the next midterms, that candidate will have his “complete and unyielding support”.

The statement comes shortly after appeals from the United Nations, urging the Tanzanian government to investigate reports of killings, disappearances, and other violations linked to the October 29 elections.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk highlighted reports suggesting that hundreds of protesters and other citizens were killed, while an unknown number remain missing or injured.

He also expressed concern over allegations that some bodies were removed from streets and hospitals to undisclosed locations, possibly to conceal evidence.

Tensions in Tanzania were already high in the lead-up to the elections, with several opposition leaders detained by the government, a move analysts described as an effort to limit political competition.

Right-wing Activist Charlie Kirk, Dead At 31, Played Key Role in Trump’s 2024 Victory

USA (KAAB TV) – U.S. right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk was credited with building President Donald Trump’s base among younger voters, galvanizing conservative youth and rising to international prominence through a group he founded at age 18.

Kirk, an Illinois native who founded the conservative student group Turning Point USA and went on to become a rising star in the Republican Party under Trump, had just returned to the United States from an overseas speaking tour when he was shot to death on Wednesday. He was 31 years old.

The shooting came as Kirk, the president of Turning Point USA, was addressing a large outdoor crowd on the Utah Valley University campus in Orem, Utah.

The Utah governor described Kirk’s death as a “political assassination.” The motive is unknown and it was not clear whether a suspect had been arrested.

On Sunday, Kirk headlined an event in Tokyo organized by the far-right Sanseito party, which made big gains in Japan’s upper house election in July. He also recently spoke in South Korea.

Kirk had 5.3 million followers on his X account and drew an audience of more than 500,000 monthly listeners to podcasts of his radio program, “The Charlie Kirk Show.” He also authored or contributed to several books, including “Time for a Turning Point” and “The College Scam.”

In addition to founding Turning Point USA in 2012 with conservative activist Bill Montgomery, Kirk launched Turning Point Action in 2019 as a non-profit advocacy group backing conservative candidates for office.

Turning Point USA, an organization dedicated to advancing conservative causes on college campuses, was instrumental in driving youth support for Trump in the November 2024 election.

Kirk’s Turning Point events were raucous, a mix of a political rally, tent revival, rock concert and professional wrestling match.

Speakers would take the stage backed by ear-splitting anthems and bright pyrotechnics before often high-spirited crowds of thousands.

“No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie,” Trump wrote on his online platform Truth Social in announcing Kirk’s death. “He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us.”

Trump ordered flags flown at half-staff in Kirk’s honor.

Kirk was provocative, taking aim at Muslim politicians, including Minneapolis mayoral candidate Omar Fateh and Islam as a whole. He said in April, “Islam has conquest values.

They seek to take over land and territory, and Europe is now a conquered continent.”

He repeated conspiracy theories popular among white nationalists. During an August podcast episode, Kirk accused Democratic lawmaker Jasmine Crockett, who is Black, of being part of an “attempt to eliminate the white population in this country.”

The son of a counselor at a mental-health clinic and an architect, Kirk saw his political career propelled with a 2012 op-ed he wrote for conservative media outlet Breitbart that caught the attention of Fox News, according to a February New York Times report.

Fox then booked Kirk to discuss the national debt, the Times reported. That appearance led to a speech at Benedictine University, where he met Montgomery, a Tea Party activist.

Montgomery encouraged Kirk to spread his message to college campuses, and registered the name Turning Point USA for Kirk in July 2012.

Kirk is survived by his wife Erika, a former Miss Arizona USA beauty pageant winner, and their two children.
