Minneapolis (Kaab TV) – U.S. police, particularly officers in Minneapolis, have arrested a man who attacked Congresswoman Ilhan Omar while she was attending a public meeting that discussed the pressure caused by ongoing operations and escalating violence in the state of Minnesota.

The suspect approached Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and sprayed substances described as having a very foul odor, the nature of which has not yet been identified. Security personnel at the venue intervened immediately and detained the man.

After the suspect was restrained, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar moved toward him but was prevented from confronting him, as he had already been handed over to the police.

Authorities are investigating what substance was sprayed, who may have sent him, his motive, and other pending questions.

Following the incident, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar posted a statement on her social media accounts confirming that she was safe and unharmed, and that the incident would not intimidate her.

“I am okay. I am safe. This small act will not frighten me, nor will it stop me from doing my job. I will not allow bullies to win,” said Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in a post shared on her X (formerly Twitter) account.

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has previously stated that she is facing pressure from political figures, including those close to former U.S. President Donald Trump, whom she says are attempting to silence her. However, she has emphasized that such challenges only serve to strengthen and motivate her.

Mogadishu (Kaab TV) — The United States has announced a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to the identification or capture of those responsible for an attack targeting U.S. military personnel and property at Kismayo International Airport in southern Somalia.

The reward was offered through the U.S. government’s Rewards for Justice program, which seeks public assistance in counterterrorism investigations. The attack, claimed by the al-Qaida-linked militant group al-Shabab, involved rockets and mortar shells fired at U.S. and African forces stationed at the airport.

U.S. officials said the assault caused no casualties and resulted in no damage to U.S. facilities.

“Do you have information about the individuals involved in the attack?” the program said in a statement posted on a U.S. government website. “Your information could lead to a reward and possible relocation.”

Kismayo International Airport hosts a U.S. military presence alongside Somali and African partner forces. The United States operates a base near the airport, where it provides training and support to Somali federal troops and Jubbaland forces, including the elite Danab units, as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts.

Al-Shabab has repeatedly targeted military installations and international forces in Somalia, frequently using indirect fire such as mortars and rockets to test defenses and demonstrate its continued operational capability despite sustained pressure from Somali and allied forces.

Over the past decade, the group has carried out numerous attacks in Somalia and neighboring countries, killing thousands of civilians and security personnel, including American citizens. Al-Shabab remains designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the United States.

U.S. armed forces in Somalia continue to advise, train, and assist Somali and regional partners in operations aimed at degrading al-Shabab’s capabilities and preventing attacks against civilians and international interests.

Officials urged anyone with relevant information to contact the Rewards for Justice program, emphasizing that tips can be submitted confidentially.

Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – January 15, 2026 – Justin Davis has officially assumed the role of Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu, marking the first diplomatic appointment to Somalia under President Donald Trump’s return to office.

The embassy announced Davis’s appointment on social media, noting that he will ensure “continuity of U.S. diplomatic engagement” while promoting American interests “in line with the Trump Administration’s America First priorities.”

This appointment comes amid rising regional tensions, including the ongoing conflict in the Red Sea and Israel’s recent recognition of Somaliland, which has strained relations between Mogadishu and Israel.

The “America First” approach generally prioritizes U.S. national security, counterterrorism effectiveness, and careful oversight of foreign aid. In Somalia, this could signal a review of the billions in U.S. assistance provided over the past two decades and a push for greater accountability in efforts against al-Shabaab.

Washington (Kaab TV) — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that his administration would pursue efforts to revoke the citizenship of American citizens who were originally immigrants if they are found guilty of fraud-related crimes. In his remarks, the president specifically referenced immigrants “from Somalia or anywhere else,” a statement that has drawn attention and criticism from immigrant advocacy groups.

President Trump made the comments while speaking at an event organized by the Detroit Economic Club, where he addressed economic policy, government spending, and immigration enforcement. He stated that individuals convicted of fraud would face prison sentences and eventual deportation from the United States.

“If you come to the United States to defraud the American people, we will put you in jail, and then we will send you back to where you came from,” Trump said, prompting applause from some members of the audience.

The president’s remarks come as his administration continues to intensify its rhetoric and policy positions regarding alleged corruption and fraud within government-funded social programs.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that certain federal assistance programs—particularly those related to child care support and subsidized food programs—have been exploited through large-scale fraud schemes. During his speech, he specifically mentioned the state of Minnesota, which is home to a significant population of Somali Americans. The Twin Cities metropolitan area, in particular, hosts the largest Somali community in the United States.

Federal and state authorities are currently conducting investigations into these allegations. However, as of now, no comprehensive or conclusive official findings have been released to substantiate the full scope of the claims being made. Despite the ongoing nature of these investigations, the Trump administration has already announced steps to suspend portions of federal funding allocated to child care assistance programs in five states.

The affected states—California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, and New York—are all led by Democratic administrations. In response to the funding suspension, these states have filed a lawsuit in federal court, arguing that the administration’s actions violate federal law and exceed executive authority. They contend that the funding cuts would harm vulnerable families and children who rely on these programs for basic support.

Last week, a federal judge issued a temporary order blocking the administration’s decision, allowing the funds to continue while the case proceeds through the courts. The ruling does not resolve the dispute but pauses the enforcement of the funding cuts until a full legal review can be conducted.

President Trump has frequently relied on claims of widespread fraud and criminal activity by immigrants as justification for tightening immigration policies and strengthening enforcement measures. Critics argue that such statements are often based on unproven or exaggerated allegations and unfairly target immigrant communities, contributing to stigma and fear.

Numerous academic studies and law enforcement analyses have found that immigrants, as a group, are generally less likely to commit violent crimes than individuals born in the United States.

The debate over immigration, citizenship, and government accountability continues to be a central and polarizing issue in American politics, with Trump’s latest comments further intensifying national discussion and concern among immigrant communities.

Washington (Kaab TV) – The U.S. government has temporarily suspended all immigration applications coming from 19 countries, according to an official press statement.

This move comes a week after an attack in Washington in which two National Guard soldiers were killed.

The immigration agency USCIS had already halted all asylum procedures last Friday. The agency’s director, Joseph Edlow, said the decision was driven by the need for much more rigorous screening of foreign nationals.

Some of the countries now facing suspended immigration applications were already on the list of nations subject to travel restrictions under former President Trump.

The affected countries include: Venezuela, Cuba, Haiti, Sierra Leone, Togo, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Sudan, Somalia, Libya, Burundi, Yemen, Iran, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Myanmar, and Laos.

This decision comes as U.S. President Donald Trump once again intensified his criticism of the Somali community in Minnesota, stating that he does not want immigrants coming from East Africa. He claimed they do not contribute positively to the country.

There are growing fears that an operation targeting undocumented immigrants will soon begin in the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, focusing on individuals without legal status.

USA (KAAB TV) – United States President Donald Trump has said he is withdrawing his support for Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, calling the lawmaker a “lunatic” and accusing her of going “far left”.

In a post on his Truth Social platform late on Friday, Trump said, “I am withdrawing my support and endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene, of the great state of Georgia.”

The US leader, labelling Greene “wacky”, said all the lawmaker did was “COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN”, despite his “record achievements” in office.

Greene, a member of the House of Representatives, has long been a reliable ally and fierce defender of Trump, even sporting a Make America Great Again (MAGA) baseball hat at President Joe Biden’s 2024 State of the Union address.

But in recent months, she has taken positions at odds with the White House and her fellow Republicans, including criticising them during the just-ended federal government shutdown, saying the Trump administration needed a plan to help people set to lose health insurance subsidies as part of planned cuts.

More notably, Greene has also become a vocal campaigner for transparency and the full release of files related to late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein – a recurrent scandal that continues to engulf President Trump.

Greene responded to Trump’s announcement on Friday with screenshots of a text message she sent the president about the Epstein case, claiming it “sent him over the edge”.

“It’s astonishing really how hard he’s fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out that he actually goes to this level,” she wrote on X.

“Most Americans wish he would fight this hard to help the forgotten men and women of America who are fed up with foreign wars and foreign causes, are going broke trying to feed their families, and are losing hope of ever achieving the American dream,” she said.

Greene also claimed Trump is going after her “hard to make an example to scare all the other Republicans before next week’s vote to release the Epstein files”.

On Wednesday, House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson said the body will hold a vote next week on whether to force the Department of Justice to disclose all files related to Epstein – who died by suicide in prison in 2019.

It came as a result of the bipartisan Epstein Files Transparency Act – a discharge petition allowing a majority of lawmakers to bypass the House leadership and force a vote on the issue – which was signed by Greene and three other House Republicans.

If backed, the measure would force the release of flight logs and travel records, individuals named or referenced in connection with the Epstein investigation, and materials related to Epstein’s former girlfriend and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.

How well did Trump know Epstein and Maxwell?

Trump has faced growing scrutiny over his alleged ties to the disgraced financier, most recently on Wednesday, when Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released new emails appearing to further link the pair.

In one email, Epstein told Maxwell that Trump had “spent hours” at his house with one abuse victim. The White House claimed the communications “prove nothing”.

Trump has repeatedly urged his supporters to move on from the scandal, labelling suggestions that there is an Epstein client list with his name on it a “hoax” pushed by his Democratic opponents.

In an interview on Friday, Greene labelled Trump’s resistance to releasing the files a “huge miscalculation”, adding that she does not believe he has anything to hide.

Trump made no mention of the Epstein issue in his post disowning Greene, claiming the schism between the pair began when he discouraged her from running for senator or governor due to low polling numbers.

“She has told many people that she is upset that I don’t return her phone calls any more, but with 219 Congressmen/women, 53 US Senators, 24 Cabinet Members, almost 200 Countries, and an otherwise normal life to lead, I can’t take a ranting Lunatic ‘s call every day,” Trump said.

Trump continued that Republicans in Georgia are “fed up with her and her antics” and should they find an alternative to run at the next midterms, that candidate will have his “complete and unyielding support”.

USA (KAAB TV) – The United States has joined the international community in mourning those who lost their lives during Tanzania’s recent elections. In a statement posted on Twitter, the U.S. Embassy in Tanzania said, “We join in mourning with all Tanzanian families and communities who have lost loved ones during this difficult period.”

The statement comes shortly after appeals from the United Nations, urging the Tanzanian government to investigate reports of killings, disappearances, and other violations linked to the October 29 elections.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk highlighted reports suggesting that hundreds of protesters and other citizens were killed, while an unknown number remain missing or injured.

He also expressed concern over allegations that some bodies were removed from streets and hospitals to undisclosed locations, possibly to conceal evidence.

Tensions in Tanzania were already high in the lead-up to the elections, with several opposition leaders detained by the government, a move analysts described as an effort to limit political competition.

Opposition parties have reported that hundreds of people were killed during post-election unrest, and families continue to search for missing relatives.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan was declared the winner of the October 29 elections, securing 98% of the vote according to official results.

While her victory was officially confirmed, opposition groups have criticized the outcome and raised concerns about the fairness of the electoral process.

Opposition parties rejected the results, calling the vote a mockery of democracy, noting that Samia’s main challengers had been either imprisoned or barred from running.

International observers have also expressed concern over the lack of transparency and the widespread unrest that followed the elections, which reportedly left hundreds of people dead or injured.
