The United Kingdom has called on the Federal Government of Somalia to strengthen inclusive political dialogue among all stakeholders as part of efforts to achieve a secure, stable and politically united Somalia.

The appeal was made during a meeting at Villa Somalia between Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the UK Minister for Development and Africa, where the two sides discussed bilateral relations, development cooperation, security, governance and regional issues.

According to the UK delegation, lasting stability in Somalia depends on broad political consensus and the participation of all political actors in national decision-making processes.

British officials emphasized the importance of an inclusive political framework capable of addressing key national issues through dialogue and compromise.

The discussions come at a time when Somalia continues to face political disagreements over electoral reforms, constitutional amendments and the country’s future governance model.

Opposition groups and some federal member states have repeatedly called for wider consultations on major political decisions, while the federal government has defended its reform agenda as necessary for advancing democratization and state-building.

The United Kingdom has long been one of Somalia’s key international partners, providing support in areas including security, governance, humanitarian assistance and economic development.

London has consistently argued that sustainable peace and security can only be achieved through a political settlement supported by all Somali stakeholders.

British officials reiterated that a broad-based political agreement remains essential to strengthening national unity, advancing democratic institutions and creating the conditions necessary for long-term stability and development across Somalia.

The meeting also reaffirmed the strong partnership between Somalia and the United Kingdom, with both sides expressing their commitment to continued cooperation on issues related to security, economic growth, governance reforms and regional stability.
