Kenyan police have arrested a high-profile suspect believed to be a key figure in an illegal firearms trafficking network after intercepting him at a security checkpoint while he was allegedly transporting weapons to Nairobi.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the suspect was arrested on Tuesday, July 8, 2026, at the Kanyonyo Vehicle Checkpoint (VCP) during an intelligence-led operation. Officers conducted a targeted search of the vehicle and recovered several firearms along with a large cache of ammunition.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is allegedly involved in the illegal sale, supply, and distribution of firearms and ammunition across multiple regions of Kenya. Police believe the seizure has disrupted a significant weapons supply chain that was intended to fuel criminal activities in Nairobi and surrounding areas.
