BAIDOA (Kaab TV) – The President of the South West State, Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed (Lafta Gareen), has officially announced his resignation from the presidency, according to a brief statement he posted on his official Facebook page.

The decision comes just hours after forces from the Federal Government of Somalia, along with opposition forces known as the “South West Salvation,” entered the city of Baydhabo.

Before stepping down, the former president appointed his Minister of Finance, Ahmed Mohamed Hussein, as Acting President to lead the administration until a final political resolution is reached.

According to reliable sources, Lafta Gareen and the Speaker of the South West Parliament, Ali Said Fiqi, have flown to Nairobi, refusing to travel to Mogadishu or surrender to the federal government.

Reports also indicate that following talks at the Baydhabo presidential palace, the Federal Government allowed Lafta Gareen to leave the city on the condition that he first resign from his position and transfer authority to the Minister of Finance pending new elections.

Lafta Gareen had governed South West State for seven years, and many people were surprised by how quickly he was removed from power within just a few hours.

Just days earlier, Lafta Gareen had been re-elected as president in a hastily organized election, which many believe further intensified federal government interference.

Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – The President of the South West State, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed (Laftagareen), has strongly warned against any attempts to undermine security, stability, and the administrative order in the South West regions, stressing that no one will be allowed to pursue political interests through weapons and chaos.

Speaking during a sermon at a mosque in the city of Baidoa, the President addressed a brief clash that took place on Thursday in parts of the city.

He described the incident as a deliberate and coordinated attempt to create disorder and insecurity, which was swiftly contained by South West State security forces.

President Laftagareen stated that the violence was orchestrated by individuals with links to the Federal Government of Somalia and groups based in Mogadishu, although he did not disclose specific names.

He emphasized that such interference poses a serious threat to peaceful coexistence and the ongoing development in Baidoa.

“There will be no armed individuals operating outside the authority of the South West administration. All weapons must remain under the control of the government,” President Laftagareen said, adding that strict action will be taken against any group that violates this order.

He further underscored that political engagement must follow legal and constitutional channels, calling on anyone with political ambitions or views to pursue them through lawful institutions rather than through intimidation or the use of force.

President Laftagareen reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding peace, development, and social unity in the South West State, and reiterated their readiness to confront any actions that threaten security and governance in the region.
