]]> Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – Residents of the South West State region went out this morning to participate in a one-person, one-vote election, in which they are voting both local councils and representatives of the administration.

The election is being held across 13 districts in the Bay, Bakool, and Lower Shabelle regions.

Large numbers of voters have been streaming into polling stations, eager to cast their ballots, with long queues forming as members of the public take part in the process.

A total of 15 political associations and 394 candidates are competing in the South West State representative council election, while 18 political associations and 1,297 candidates are contesting the local council elections.

The Federal Government of Somalia, which is overseeing the election, has backed the Speaker of the House of the People, Adan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), for the presidency of South West State.

He is running under the party led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the JSP.
