HARGEISA (Kaab TV) – Somaliland authorities have ordered all foreign nationals residing in its territories without legal documentation to leave within 10 days, describing the measure as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and maintain stability.

The directive was announced by Somaliland’s Deputy Minister of Interior, Abdirashid Mohamed Ahmed (Magaalo), who said security agencies have been instructed to carefully implement the order and address issues related to undocumented foreigners residing in Somaliland.

“We have directed the security agencies to organize and implement measures concerning undocumented foreign nationals and ensure that they leave the country within 10 days,” the deputy minister said. “We also urge the public to report any suspicious individuals to the security authorities. Protecting our security is a responsibility shared by everyone.”

The official stated that Somaliland is receiving increasing international attention and expects a rise in foreign investment and business activity in the coming years. He argued that maintaining a secure and stable environment is essential as the territory seeks to attract investors and expand its economic opportunities.

At the same time, the deputy minister emphasized that members of the public should not take the law into their own hands. He stressed that citizens are not authorized to question, detain, or take action against foreign nationals, noting that responsibility for immigration enforcement lies solely with government institutions and immigration authorities.

He further clarified that foreign nationals who are legally residing in Somaliland have nothing to fear and may continue their activities without interference.

Those who are staying in the territory without valid documentation, however, are expected to leave peacefully or regularize their immigration status in accordance with applicable laws.

The announcement follows a series of similar measures introduced by Somaliland authorities in previous years. Successive administrations have periodically called on undocumented migrants to either obtain legal residency permits or leave the territory.

While some foreign nationals have been granted legal status allowing them to work and reside in Somaliland, others have faced deportation or administrative action for failing to comply with immigration regulations.

The latest directive comes amid broader efforts by Somaliland authorities to tighten border controls, improve immigration management, and address security concerns as the territory continues to pursue greater international engagement and economic development.
