MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – Former Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi has urged President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro) to exercise caution and carefully assess the political agreements and international partnerships his administration enters into, warning that the rapidly changing global political landscape could have significant implications for Somaliland.

In a written statement released on Friday, Muse Bihi said the world is currently experiencing major geopolitical shifts that require Somaliland’s leadership to make well-calculated decisions. He stressed that any diplomatic or strategic agreement should be thoroughly evaluated to avoid unintended political, economic, or security consequences.

“Today, the world is facing unprecedented political changes and geopolitical turbulence. The conflict in the Middle East has already begun affecting the Horn of Africa, and the outcome of the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States could reshape the global political, security, and economic order, particularly across the Middle East and the Horn of Africa,” Bihi said.

The former president also pointed to what he described as the growing influence of several Muslim-majority regional powers, including Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. He argued that these countries could move closer together diplomatically amid what he characterized as increasing policy differences between the United States and Israel, developments he believes could have wider regional consequences.

“It is becoming increasingly evident that the influence of countries such as Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia is expanding. There is also a possibility that these nations will strengthen their cooperation, especially as disagreements between the leaderships of the United States and Israel continue to intensify. These developments should not be underestimated because they are likely to have far-reaching regional and international effects,” he said.

Bihi concluded by emphasizing that Somaliland’s government must carefully study the potential impact of ongoing global developments before making major foreign policy decisions.

“It is essential to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the implications and consequences of the agreements and geopolitical changes taking place around the world to avoid political uncertainty. I therefore call upon the Somaliland government, particularly the executive branch, to closely examine these international developments so that Somaliland’s national interests are protected from any political miscalculation,” he stated.

Muse Bihi’s remarks come just one day after President Cirro returned from a high-profile visit to Israel, where he announced what he described as significant diplomatic and economic progress. During the visit, Cirro said Israel had informed Somaliland of its intention to recognize the territory, and the two sides signed a preliminary cooperation agreement covering security, agriculture, water management, healthcare, and investment.

The visit has generated widespread political debate across the Horn of Africa, with supporters describing it as a major diplomatic breakthrough for Somaliland, while critics have called for greater caution over the long-term geopolitical implications of deepening ties with Israel amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
