In a statement issued Monday, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed solidarity with the government and people of Nigeria, extending condolences to the victims’ families and wishing a swift recovery to those injured.

“The Federal Republic of Somalia stands in solidarity with the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement said. Mogadishu also called for the “immediate and unconditional release” of all abducted individuals and reaffirmed its support for Nigeria’s efforts to bring those responsible to justice.

Somalia underscored the importance of African unity in combating terrorism and safeguarding civilians across the continent.

The attack in Zamfara took place late Thursday night into Friday morning in Tungan Dutse village, located in the Bukkuyum area. According to local authorities and residents, armed men on motorcycles stormed the village, set homes ablaze, and abducted several residents after killing dozens.

The assault follows another surge of violence in northwestern Nigeria. Last week, at least 46 people were reported killed in raids in the Borgu area of Niger State. The deadliest incident occurred in Konkoso village, where at least 38 residents were reportedly shot or had their throats slit.

Nigeria continues to grapple with persistent insecurity fueled by armed groups and bandit networks operating across several regions. The country has recently expanded security cooperation with the United States after Donald Trump criticized Abuja’s handling of sectarian violence and warned of potential consequences if the killings continued.
