Nairobi (Kaab TV) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto, and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed are scheduled to hold a trilateral meeting in Nairobi.

The talks will focus on relations between the three neighboring countries, security issues, the future of forces stationed in Somalia, and other regional matters, according to sources close to the meeting in Nairobi.

Before the main trilateral session, Hassan Sheikh, William Ruto, and Abiy Ahmed are expected to hold separate bilateral meetings to discuss recent developments and the objectives of the summit, which will then feed into their joint discussions.

At the conclusion of the meeting, a communiqué is expected to be issued outlining the key agreements and decisions reached by the three leaders.

This trilateral summit comes amid ongoing security and political challenges in the Horn of Africa. Somalia has been working with its neighbors on stabilizing the region, especially concerning militant groups, cross-border security, and economic cooperation.

Kenya and Ethiopia are key regional partners, and such high-level meetings often aim to strengthen coordination on peacekeeping, trade, and regional diplomacy. Observers will be watching closely to see whether the leaders announce concrete steps for joint security operations, economic projects, or political cooperation.

Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday night called on residents of Mogadishu to turn out in large numbers for the one-person, one-vote local council elections scheduled for Thursday, describing the vote as a historic milestone in Somalia’s state-building process and democratic recovery.

In a nationally televised address, President Mohamud said the elections represent a defining moment in the restoration of Somali governance and statehood.

He noted that the introduction of direct voting reflects both improved security conditions in the capital and a decisive shift away from provisional political arrangements toward democratic legitimacy.

“The election is a clear indication of the return of governance and the improved security situation in Mogadishu,” the President said. He urged all eligible citizens with voter cards to exercise their constitutional right without fear or hesitation, emphasizing that the power to choose local representatives now firmly rests with the people.

President Mohamud underscored that participation in the vote is essential to shaping the future of Mogadishu’s districts, describing voting not only as a civic duty but also as a symbol of Somalia’s resilience and steady progress after decades of conflict.

He added that the elections are about more than filling local administrative posts, stressing that they are central to strengthening the democratic foundations of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The President assured the public that extensive security measures had been put in place to guarantee a peaceful and orderly voting process across the capital.

His remarks came as security preparations intensified, with thousands of police officers deployed throughout Mogadishu. The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) had earlier confirmed that all logistical arrangements were in place.

The first one-person, one-vote local council elections in Mogadishu in more than 50 years began on Thursday morning at polling stations across the capital’s 16 districts.

The vote is taking place amid strong opposition from Somalia’s main opposition coalition, the Somali Salvation Forum, which has rejected the process as neither free nor fair and accused the government of engineering a one-sided, one-party election.

It is both shocking and deeply disgraceful that the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, once a vocal critic of external aggression against our land and sea, has now betrayed the very sovereignty he swore to protect.

Standing in the sacred halls of the Martyrs Mosque in Mogadishu on January 12, 2024, he boldly declared Ethiopia as our enemy, pledging that Somalia would never bow to foreign aggression.

He passionately proclaimed, “If land is to be claimed, it is we who should claim a land in Ethiopia, not them claiming our land.”

Yet, what followed was a series of treacherous actions that stripped his words of any sincerity.

This president, bypassing his Cabinet Ministers and Parliament, entered into agreements with foreign powers without transparency or accountability.

Under the guise of safeguarding Somalia’s sovereignty, he signed questionable security agreements with Egypt and Eritrea and pandered to the Turkish President with promises that remain cloaked in secrecy.

And now, in a move that cannot be described as anything less than betrayal, he has visited Addis Ababa, standing side by side with the Abyssinian regime.

He saluted their so-called navy – a force funded by the French President who was kicked out of every country in West Africa intent on carving up our coastline and encroaching on Awdal State’s strategic cities, Zeila and Lughaya.

This is the very regime he once labeled an enemy, and yet today, he lends them legitimacy and emboldens their ambitions.

This president has violated every legal and constitutional safeguard of the Federal Republic of Somalia. His actions are not merely failures of leadership; they are crimes of treason against the Somali people.

It is now imperative for the two chambers of our federal parliament to act decisively and impeach him for betraying the trust of our nation.

We must unite, as we did when defending our coastline against Kenya’s annexation attempts. Let us rise together to defend Somalia’s land, sea, and sovereignty.

This betrayal cannot and will not be allowed to stand.
