According to the Somali Police Force, Bootaan was taken into custody on Monday at a facility known as “Dugsiga Raaliyo,” where authorities say the controversial video was recorded and later shared online. The footage quickly sparked public outrage and widespread criticism, with many Somalis describing the content as offensive and degrading to women.

Police said the video allegedly featured several women who were brought into the building as part of the advertisement. During the promotion, Bootaan was accused of suggesting that anyone purchasing a house would also be provided with a woman to marry, a claim that drew condemnation from members of the public, women’s rights advocates, and community leaders.

In a statement, the Somali Police Force said the alleged actions violated public morality and undermined the dignity, honor, and respect afforded to Somali women. Authorities emphasized that women should not be portrayed or treated as commodities for commercial gain and pledged to take appropriate legal action against anyone found responsible for such conduct.

Police confirmed that Bootaan remains in custody and is undergoing preliminary investigations. Officials said he will be referred to the relevant court once the investigation is completed and prosecutors determine the appropriate charges.

The police also issued a warning against the dissemination of misinformation, inflammatory allegations, or statements that could damage the reputation of security institutions or undermine public confidence under the pretext of defending women’s rights. Authorities stressed that individuals who spread content deemed harmful to public order, security, or social stability could face legal consequences.

The case has generated significant debate across Mogadishu and on social media platforms, where many users called for accountability and stronger protections for the dignity and rights of women. The incident has also renewed discussions about ethical standards in advertising and the responsibility of content creators to respect social and cultural values.
