Rome, Italy (Kaab TV) – The Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, is currently on an official visit to the Republic of Italy, where he held a high-level meeting with his Italian counterpart, Guido Crosetto, the Minister of Defense of Italy.

The bilateral meeting, which took place in Rome, focused on enhancing defense cooperation between the two nations, with a particular emphasis on maritime security, counter-terrorism, capacity-building, and the ongoing efforts to professionalize and modernize the Somali National Army (SNA).

Both parties also discussed the strategic importance and funding of the AUSSOM (African Union-led mission in Somalia) initiative, which plays a critical role in Somalia’s ongoing stabilization and peacebuilding efforts.

Ministers Fiqi and Crosetto stressed the significance of a mutually beneficial and sustainable partnership, grounded in shared values and long-term regional stability.

They underscored the importance of concrete cooperation that extends beyond military support to include political, economic, and strategic collaboration.

A central element of their dialogue was the implementation of joint initiatives under the Mattei Plan, a comprehensive Italian framework aimed at deepening cooperation with African nations.

The Mattei Plan promotes investment, infrastructure development, and sustainable partnerships across the African continent, with Somalia identified as a key partner in the Horn of Africa.

The two defense ministers reaffirmed the historically strong relationship between Somalia and Italy, dating back to Italy’s historical involvement in Somalia.

They emphasized that this longstanding relationship forms a robust foundation for current and future collaboration in the pursuit of peace, security, and development across Somalia and the broader Horn of Africa region.

Minister Fiqi’s visit is seen as a significant step in reinforcing Italy’s role as a key ally and supporter of Somalia, particularly in efforts to rebuild its national defense institutions and combat terrorism.

It also reflects Somalia’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships as it continues its journey toward sustainable peace, sovereignty, and national resilience.

The visit concluded with both sides expressing optimism about the future of Somali-Italian relations and their shared commitment to regional peace and cooperative security frameworks.

Rome (KAAB TV) – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni currently under judicial investigation following her government releasing a Libyan police officer who is a wanted individual by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The prisoner who is known by the name Osama Elmasri Njeem was released last week and flown on an Italian government plane just days after being released from prison in the northern Italian city of Turin on an ICC warrant.

Osama Elmasri Njeem is wanted and accused of crimes against humanity such as murder, torture and rape.

The ICC has demanded an explanation from the Italian Prime Minister, saying it was not consulted on the decision to release Njeem.

In a video message posted on social media on Tuesday, Meloni said she was investigating Rome’s attorney general, Francesco Lo Voi, after she was accused of contributing to a crime and misappropriation of public funds.

Meloni dismissed the allegations, saying she “will not be intimidated by this investigation”.

She said prosecutors were also investigating Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi and the Cabinet & Intelligence.

Italy detained Njem in Turin earlier this month, but the government suddenly released him two days later. He was taken on an official government plane and taken to Tripoli.
