Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni spent Monday night in Towfiiq district in Mudug region as part of his ongoing tour of eastern Mudug, which has now entered its fourth day.

The president is expected to travel to Dhinowda on Tuesday, a coastal settlement in southern Mudug that has been heavily affected by advancing sand dunes.

Large sections of the area have reportedly been buried by drifting sand, creating serious challenges for local residents, infrastructure and livelihoods.

Deni is expected to assess the situation and discuss possible measures to address the environmental crisis.

Alongside environmental concerns, the Puntland leader has been engaged in mediation efforts aimed at resolving tensions between the Sheekhaal and Sure communities.

Since the start of the visit, he has held a series of meetings with elders, community leaders and residents, emphasizing the importance of peace, coexistence and dialogue to prevent further conflict.

The tour is expected to conclude in the port town of Garacad, where President Deni is scheduled to arrive on Wednesday.

Puntland officials say the trip is focused on strengthening community reconciliation, addressing local development challenges and listening directly to the concerns of residents across eastern Mudug.

The visit comes as Puntland continues to prioritize local peacebuilding initiatives and conflict resolution in remote regions, while also seeking long-term solutions to environmental threats such as desertification and sand encroachment that are increasingly affecting coastal communities.
