The meeting took place on Monday evening, with Deni receiving Ali Abdi Firin, chairman of the Somali community in Zambia, and Farah Muse Ismail, another member of the diaspora community.

Puntland lawmaker Abdigani Dhaashane and the administration’s representative in Kenya, Mohamed Ahmed, widely known as Fagalade, also attended.

Although details of the discussions were not publicly disclosed, the meeting highlights the Puntland government’s engagement with Somali communities overseas, many of whom maintain family, business and social ties with their home regions.

Somali diaspora communities play an important role in supporting households through remittances, financing businesses and contributing to education, healthcare and other community initiatives.

For Puntland, engagement with Somalis abroad also provides an opportunity to strengthen communication with its citizens overseas and encourage investment in the region.

Zambia is among the African countries where Somalis have established communities involved in trade and other commercial activities.

Community representatives often serve as intermediaries between diaspora members, local authorities and institutions in Somalia, helping address concerns involving documentation, welfare and relations with their places of origin.

Puntland, a federal member state in northeastern Somalia, has longstanding connections with diaspora communities across Africa, the Middle East, Europe and North America.

Its administration has sought to maintain links with Somalis abroad as part of broader efforts to support development and economic activity at home.

No further information was released about any specific agreements, initiatives or commitments arising from Deni’s meeting with the delegation.
