]]> MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – The African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) condemns the heinous Al-Shabaab mortar attacks on Mogadishu’s Aden Abdulle International Airport and nearby residential neighborhoods on Wednesday.

These indiscriminate attacks on innocent civilians underscore Al-Shabaab’s blatant disregard for human life and expose the group’s desperation in the face of relentless pressure from Somali security forces and international partners.
“We stand firmly in solidarity with the government and people of Somalia in their pursuit of lasting peace and security,” said Sivuyile Bam, Deputy Special Representative of the African Union Commission and Acting Head of AUSSOM.
“AUSSOM extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends, and relatives of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.”
Multiple rounds hit on Wednesday Mogadishu’s Adan Adde airport and Halane – a heavily guarded compound where foreign diplomats are based – according to multiple sources.
Some of the mortars hit at Adan Adde airport, an area where UN personnel board aircraft and another hit inside Halane area. The sound of the mortars were heard in some of the neighborhoods of Mogadishu.
Meanwhile, the airport emergency sirens were heard, causing a sense of panic.
The official casualty figure of the attack is not yet known.

]]> MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) –  At least three civilians were killed and four others injured after multiple mortar shells struck the suburbs of Waberi district in Mogadishu, according to residents and the police.

Early in the morning, a tragic incident occurred when a mortar hit the house of a madrasa teacher named Moalin Aweys Madey in Waberi district, resulting in the deaths of him and his two children. The mother, identified as Naimo Mohamed Abdi, and three other children, including Halima Moalin Aweys, Isra Moalin Aweys, and their brother Mohamed Moalin Aweys, sustained injuries during the attack, as reported by witnesses.

Similar mortar shells were also heard in other districts of the capital, including Wardhiigley and Hamar-Jajab.

The Somali police spokesman, Sadiq Doodishe, confirmed that the mortar attacks in Mogadishu originated from the Dayniile district.

He further stated that the police have arrested a suspect believed to be involved in the attack. However, no specific details regarding the perpetrators of the mortar attack were disclosed.

The spokesman acknowledged that the mortar attacks caused panic among the people of Mogadishu with residents running to shelter but did not mention any specific plans to address these recurring incidents.

No group has claimed responsibility for the Tuesday morning’s mortar attack at this time.

It is worth noting that several weeks ago, a mortar attack targeted the presidential palace, Villa Somalia, while a United Nations delegation was meeting with officials from the federal government.

Mortar attacks occasionally target the heavily fortified Halane camp, which houses the United Nations and several Western embassies in Somalia. Al-Shabaab has previously claimed responsibility for such attacks.

Diplomatic sources have confirmed that last year, United Nations officials lodged a complaint with the Somali Ministry of Security, demanding action to address the mortar attacks on the Halane camp. There have been instances where United Nations workers were injured during these incidents.
