MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – A sense of calm returned to Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, on Saturday following two days of clashes and heightened security tensions involving forces of the Federal Government of Somalia and troops loyal to some opposition figures.

Reports from the city indicate that the heavy military movements witnessed in recent days have significantly decreased, while major roads across Mogadishu have reopened to civilians and public transportation. Security forces that had previously been deployed in confrontation areas were also seen withdrawing from key positions.

Former Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire have reportedly returned to their residences in the Halane area of Mogadishu after mediation efforts and negotiations aimed at easing the security situation in the capital.

The Federal Government of Somalia announced that it had concluded what it described as a security operation targeting “anti-peace militias” accused of attempting to create instability in Mogadishu. The government stated that Somali security forces had successfully maintained order and prevented actions that could have threatened the stability of the capital.

Meanwhile, the international community has continued efforts to de-escalate the country’s political tensions. Reports suggest that Somalia’s international partners are pressuring both the government and opposition groups to return to the negotiating table in order to resolve ongoing disputes, particularly those related to elections, the political system, and the future of Somalia’s democratic transition process.

The recent tensions in Mogadishu raised concerns among residents and observers over the possibility of renewed political violence, prompting urgent calls for dialogue, restraint, and a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – At least eight people have been confirmed dead in Mogadishu following heavy clashes on Thursday, August 14, 2025, between Haramcad police units, supported by intelligence and military-police forces who were conducting eviction, and military personnel opposing the operation.

The fighting erupted early in the Horseed neighborhood of Hodan district, centered on land near the Horseed football stadium, where civilians had been living.

While the government did not announce the evictions, residents said they saw heavily armed men arriving the area early on Thursday.

Reports indicate that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud intends to seize and later sell the land which is a former football field and housing complex currently occupied by IDP families.

Haramcad forces, led by Abdihakim Eeldheer, a relative of President Hassan Sheikh, launched the initial attack.

Residents who organized to resist were met with gunfire, later joined by military units reportedly refusing to comply with the forced evictions.

The clashes intensified, and by midday Haramcad troops had regrouped, reinforced by Uganda-trained police-military units and other security forces.

Journalists covering the event were attacked and prevented from reporting directly. Some eyewitnesses reported seeing up to five civilian bodies lying in the streets. Others were struck by stray bullets inside their homes.

Haramcad forces were reportedly using anti-aircraft guns and other heavy weapons in the densely populated civilian area, causing mass displacement.

Women in the KPP area told Kaab TV that all residents near the site had fled, with more than 2,000 people displaced.

Condemnation from Leaders

Former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed strongly condemned the attack.

“I strongly condemn the assault by the National Army on the Horseed neighborhood in Hodan district, where civilians were killed and poor neighborhoods destroyed,” he said. “It is unacceptable that President Hassan Sheikh, sworn to protect the lives and property of citizens, would turn the army against them.”

The Puntland and Jubaland administrations also condemned the violence, criticizing the use of armed force against Mogadishu residents.

Meanwhile, the Mogadishu police command expressed regret over the deaths and injuries, claiming to have secured the site of the clashes.

Kaab TV sources report that tensions remain high, with both sides regrouping and fears that fighting could resume.

Abdi Nuur Siyaad, a local leader who lost relatives in Thursday’s fighting, said residents have no choice but to defend themselves.

He accused the international community supporting the federal government of enabling the forced displacement of civilians.

The eviction of residents from public land, later sold to wealthy businessmen, has become a major controversy surrounding President Hassan Sheikh.

Since 2022, thousands of low-income families, including previously displaced people, have been forcibly removed, many left with no alternative refuge.

The current unrest coincides with increasing uncertainty over the 2026 elections, as President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s term approaches its end.

MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – At least four people have been confirmed dead following heavy clashes erupt in Mogadishu on Tuesday in Wadajir district of Mogadishu over alleged land grabbing.

Eyewitnesses told Kaab TV that the fighting started after police forces attempted to seize land located in the Tarbuush neighborhood of Wadajir district, clashing with another group composed of clan militias and military personnel already present at the site.

Abdirahman Mohamed, who said he lives near the area where the fighting erupted, reported that the police forces arrived early in the morning with bulldozers and heavy machinery.

“Armed forces with bulldozers came to the area while people were still asleep. They opened fire on the other forces that were already there,” he said.

Abdirahman added that residents were sheltering inside their homes and described the fighting as intense, with heavy gunfire ongoing.

It remains unclear whether civilians are among the casualties or the full extent of the damage inflicted on the population.

Land grabbing has been rampant in Mogadishu over the past two years, allegedly orchestrated by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and members of his family.

Premier Bank, which is linked to the president’s family and members of his administration, has also been accused of involvement in the illegal sale of public land, much of which is designated for community use and, by law, should not be privately owned.

Opposition politicians, including former leaders of the Federal Government of Somalia, have previously warned against the land grabbing.

As of now, the Somali government has not issued a statement regarding today’s fighting in Mogadishu.
