The exercise was launched by the Chief of Staff of the Somaliland Army, Brigadier General Nimcan Yusuf Osman, with joint participation from various units of the military.

According to the press release from the General Command of the Armed Forces, the exercise will span the coming weeks and will involve tactical training and live-fire weapon testing, including artillery, tanks, armored vehicles, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The command stated that the objective of the exercise is to elevate troop readiness, refine training standards, coordinate various units, and evaluate their capabilities in executing joint military operations.

It was also noted that HEEGAN 2026 has been designated as an annual training program to be conducted regularly to enhance soldier proficiency and align them with modern warfare tactics and techniques.

Meanwhile, the General Command of the Armed Forces issued a safety warning to residents living in Benderwanaag and surrounding areas where the exercise is taking place.

The command stated that during the exercise period, the sound of gunfire and heavy artillery will be heard, accompanied by troop movements.
