London (KAAB TV) – The United Kingdom has announced a renewed financial commitment of more than $30 million (approximately £23 million) to bolster security reform efforts in Somalia.

This latest contribution underscores the UK’s long-standing partnership with Somalia and its role as a key international supporter of peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

The funding package includes $8 million (£6 million) allocated to the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) and an additional $22 million (£16.5 million) designated for the African Union Support Office in Somalia (AUSSOM).

The aid aims to enhance the operational capabilities of Somali security forces and support the ongoing transition from African Union-led peacekeeping to Somali-led security operations.

Strategic Non-Combat Support for Somali Forces

A significant portion of the $8 million directed to UNSOS will provide essential non-combat logistical support to Somali Security Forces. This includes supplies such as food rations, tents, medical equipment, and casualty evacuation (CASEVAC) services.

These resources are crucial in enabling Somali forces to carry out joint operations effectively with African Union troops under the AUSSOM framework.

Currently, UNSOS provides critical support to approximately 18,900 Somali military and police personnel deployed across the country. With this new financial injection, the UK’s total contribution to UNSOS since 2021 now exceeds $58 million (£46 million).

Strengthening International Cooperation

The announcement was made during a high-level donor conference for AUSSOM, co-hosted by the United Kingdom, the Federal Government of Somalia, the African Union, and the United Nations, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

The event brought together numerous international partners, reflecting the global community’s collective commitment to fostering peace, security, and long-term stability in Somalia.

Since 2021, the UK has invested nearly $140 million (£102.5 million) in support of AUSSOM and its predecessor operations, reaffirming its leadership role in Somalia’s security sector development.

A Reliable Partner for Regional Stability

The UK government emphasized that this renewed support reflects its enduring dedication to working hand-in-hand with Somali institutions, the African Union, and the UN to advance security sector reform and empower Somali-led governance.

The assistance is also seen as part of a broader regional strategy to counter violent extremism, reduce instability, and support long-term development in the Horn of Africa.

The UK’s contributions not only bolster immediate security needs but also lay the groundwork for Somalia’s transition to self-reliant, accountable national security institutions, a vital step toward achieving sustainable peace and prosperity.

LONDON (KAAB TV) – Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, has launched a sweeping and controversial immigration policy, pledging to deport asylum seekers en masse should his party win the upcoming general election.

The strategy, dubbed Operation Restoring Justice, is rooted in nationalist rhetoric and aims to overhaul the UK’s legal and humanitarian framework.

Core Policy Pillars

Farage’s plan includes several radical measures:

Reform UK intends to scrap the Human Rights Act and withdraw the UK from the European Convention on Human Rights, effectively removing legal hurdles to rapid deportations.

Proposed laws would deny asylum claims to those arriving via so-called “small boats” and prevent them from challenging deportation.

The plan proposes building detention centers on military air bases capable of holding up to 24,000 people within 18 months—at a projected cost of £2.5 billion.

A bold target of five deportation flights per day aims to remove hundreds of thousands of migrants over a short period.

Farage floated the use of third countries such as Rwanda, Albania—or even the remote Ascension Island—as locations for deportation or holding centers.

Supportive Incentives and Strategic Messaging

A unique component of the plan involves offering a voluntary return program: migrants would receive £2,500 plus travel costs via a digital “self‑deportation” app if they agree to leave the UK voluntarily.

Farage frames the measure as a citizen-first initiative, stating that the safety of British women and girls outweighs international human rights obligations. He stressed, “I can’t be responsible for despotic regimes all over the world,” emphasizing domestic security over humanitarian concerns.

Cost and Claimed Savings

Reform UK estimates the total cost at around £10 billion over five years, arguing that long-term savings—up to £7 billion annually—will be realized by eliminating current asylum accommodation expenses.

Rising Tensions and Public Backdrop

The plan emerges amid mounting anti-immigration protests and a tense domestic landscape. Hotels housing asylum seekers have become focal points for demonstrations across towns like Epping, Exeter, and Bolton. Many protesters cite safety, overcrowding, and lack of local input as major grievances.

Since mid-July, these protests have expanded nationwide, met with significant police deployments and counter-demonstrations organized by groups like Stand Up to Racism. The unrest has triggered court rulings blocking asylum placements, such as the injunction against housing migrants at the Bell Hotel in Epping.

Legal, Diplomatic & Practical Criticisms

Legal experts and human rights organizations have condemned Farage’s proposals as dangerously extreme, likely illegal under international and U.K. law. Withdrawal from treaties and termination of judicial oversight would invite severe diplomatic and institutional backlash.

Further challenges include the enormous logistical cost and feasibility of scaling such deportations, particularly amid political opposition and infrastructure constraints.

Political Impact and Reform UK’s Positioning

Farage has seized on public discontent over immigration and asylum bottlenecks to boost Reform UK’s visibility—they have topped recent polls, capitalizing on voter frustration.

By branding the immigration situation as a “massive crisis,” Farage is positioning his party as the only serious solution to perceived threats to national security and cohesion.

Farage’s “Operation Restoring Justice” is a provocation and a policy statement, flouting established human rights norms and raising serious legal, diplomatic, and ethical questions. With the UK’s political center fracturing and public disquiet simmering, the proposal could yet redefine the national debate—or crumble against institutional and popular resistance.

London, UK (KAAB TV) — In a significant step toward strengthening international humanitarian cooperation, the Kuwait Arab Economic Development Fund has signed two new development cooperation agreements with the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). These agreements aim to provide critical emergency assistance to communities affected by ongoing conflicts in the Republic of Sudan and Somalia.

According to a statement released by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), both parties have committed a total of $10 million in aid under the terms of the agreement. Each side will contribute $5 million to support humanitarian operations implemented by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Sudan. The funding will enable UNICEF to continue delivering essential services in the areas of healthcare, nutrition, water and sanitation, and child protection—lifesaving support amid escalating humanitarian needs.

In addition, the two sides have pledged a further $5 million, equally shared at $2.5 million each, to fund a joint initiative with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Somalia. This grant will be used to assist in the restoration of essential services and infrastructure, addressing the acute needs of Somali communities that have long endured hardship due to protracted crises and poverty.

Walid Al-Bahar, Acting Representative of the Director General of the Kuwait Fund, highlighted the importance of these agreements as a testament to Kuwait’s ongoing commitment to promoting development, peace, and humanitarian relief worldwide.

“This partnership with the UK Foreign Office exemplifies how international collaboration can lead to more effective and unified support for vulnerable populations,” Al-Bahar stated. “It also underscores Kuwait’s prominent role on the global stage in advancing humanitarian causes.”

Mamadou Sow, Head of the ICRC’s Regional Office for the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, praised the joint effort as a model of shared responsibility and moral leadership.

“This contribution goes beyond financial assistance,” Sow said. “It sends a strong message of solidarity to the people of Somalia, reaffirming our collective goal of restoring dignity and basic services to those who have suffered for too long under dire circumstances.”

These two agreements are part of a broader framework established in February 2020 between Kuwait and the UK, aimed at enhancing cooperation in the delivery of humanitarian aid. That foundational agreement laid the groundwork for coordinated efforts to assist refugees, displaced persons, and communities affected by natural disasters and armed conflict around the world.

As crises continue to unfold in various regions, such partnerships represent a vital mechanism for ensuring that timely and impactful assistance reaches those most in need.
